Thousands Protest Walker in Illinois and Michigan April 17

Phil Neuenfeldt, President of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO, addressed the crowd in Springfield bringing a message of solidarity from Wisconsin workers.

It is amazing to see over 4,000 working people standing together in Springfield, Illinois today to tell Gov. Walker that his job-killing agenda of union-busting, cuts to health care and education and rolling back women’s equal pay protections are the wrong way for any state in the nation.  The energy and excitement here in Illinois is providing fuel for the people of Wisconsin as we undertake the historic effort to reclaim our democracy by recalling Gov. Walker on June 5.

Thousands protesting Scott Walker in Springfield, Illinois April 17, 2012. Later the same day thousands more protested Walker and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder in Troy, Michigan.

April 19, Milwaukee: Rally: Full Funding for Public Transit!

http://www.facebook.com/events/301223719950153/

4 p.m., @ Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Hall, 734 N 26th Street, Milwaukee

Transit Equals Access. Access Equals Jobs!

During Scott Walker’s tenure as Milwaukee County Executive and Wisconsin Governor, funding for transit has been cut by at least 10%. Fares have doubled, and over 40,000 jobs became inaccessible by transit.

-Our transit system gets Milwaukee County Workers to their jobs.

-Transit helps elders and people with disabilities maintain their independence and mobility.

-Transit fosters a healthy local economy. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) determined that for every dollar invested in public transportation, $3.00 to $4.00 in benefits is generated for the community.

-Transit contributes to better community health and safety by promoting walkable communities, reducing roadway congestion and driver stress, and mitigating air pollution.

-Public Transportation gets the workers of Milwaukee County to their jobs, with upwards of 39% of riders taking the bus to work. Local transit creates work and helps people keep the jobs they have.

TRANSIT IS VITAL TO OUR INFRASTRUCTURE.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IS A WIN-WIN FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

March for full funding for transit!

April 23, Milwaukee: ‘Will the Real Terrorist Please Stand Up?’

http://www.facebook.com/events/216710338434699/

7 p.m., UW-Milwaukee Student Union, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd., Milwaukee

Emmy award-winning director Saul Landau presents his latest film, “Will the Real Terrorist Please Stand Up?” Chronicling half a century of hostile U.S.-Cuba relations through the story of the Cuban 5 (Cubans imprisoned in the U.S. for monitoring exile terrorist groups in Miami), this film highlights decades of assassinations and sabotage at first backed and then ignored by the very government that launched a “war against terrorism.” Landau raises and tries to answer the question: why does Cuba deserve such harsh treatment?

Sponsored by Progressive Students of Milwaukee, National Lawyers Guild-Milwaukee, Wisconsin Coalition to Normalize Relations with Cuba (www.wicuba.org), Peace Action-WI (www.peaceactionwi.org), and the Latin American Solidarity Committee.
