From National Black United Front:

Every day, the reality of the fate of our young black men becomes clearer and simultaneously more bleek. While we know that justice needs to be served, let us come together and pay respect to Trayvon and his memory and all of the other young black men who have been mercilessly killed by the police. We come together not only for prayer, but to renew the sense of urgency needed for us to come together and protect our children, our families, our futures.

We call on the names of all of our lost ones, to let them know…. WE WILL NEVER FORGET.

The National Black United Front will be holding a prayer vigil in support of Trayvon Martin & his family. We are asking Black people of all backgrounds to come and have an inter-faith memorial/prayer for the spirit of Trayvon Martin & his family.

If you can please bring a candle, a picture of Trayvon or a picture of one of our own ancestors.

Drummers are welcomed also.

Today: Call It In For CeCe!

http://www.facebook.com/notes/freecece-mcdonald/call-it-in-for-cece/239937132768524

CeCe McDonald

On March 20, call, email, and fax Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman and demand he drop the charges against CeCe. This time, we are extending the call-in to include Assistant Attorney Marlene Senechal, head of adult prosecution.

LET’S LET FREEMAN AND SENECHAL KNOW THAT WE WONT STAND FOR THE RACIST, TRANSPHOBIC PROSECUTION OF CECE!

!!NEW!! Please CC mpls4cece@gmail.com on all your e-mails. Also please send us an e-mail with the time of your calls & faxes.

While Chrishaun “CeCe” McDonald is being prosecuted for murder after being violently attacked for her race and gender, Freeman’s office recently declined to prosecute the killer of Darrell Evanovich, a black man who was shot dead by a white man after an alleged robbery. While no person should be thrown to the mercy of the soulless, so-called “justice” system, the fact that CeCe is on trial after being assaulted, while a white man who killed someone after chasing them down is touted as a “good Samaritan,” highlights the racist and transphobic nature of the prosecution of CeCe. Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman and Marlene Senechal have the power to drop the charges against CeCe. So far, though, he has implicitly sided with CeCe’s white supremacist attackers by failing to acknowledge the racist, transphobic assault that she survived as a mitigating factor in the unintentional death of Dean Schmitz.

When: Tuesday, March 20th, ALL DAY

Where: From home, work, wherever you find yourself!

What: Call Michael Freeman at 612-348-5540, fax at 612-348-2042, and email at citizeninfo@co.hennepin.mn.us

Call Marlene Senechal at 612-348-5561, fax at 612-348-3061, and email at citizeninfo@co.hennepin.mn.us

!!NEW!! Please CC mpls4cece@gmail.com on all your e-mails. Also please send us an e-mail with the time of your calls & faxes.

Remember to remain polite but assertive. Some key points to mention in your calls, emails, and faxes are:

  • Identify yourself as a supporter, friend, family member, or community member calling about Ms. Chrishaun McDonald’s case.
  • Tell the County Attorney’s Office why you’re concerned: Ms. McDonald was the target of a hate crime, but she was singled out for aggressive prosecution after the attack.
  • County Attorney Freeman has declined to press charges in cases like this at least three times already this year. Remind him that he has the power to drop the charges against Ms. McDonald.
  • Tell Freeman and Senechal not to side with Ms. McDonald’s white supremacist attackers: drop the charges against Ms. McDonald.

Tell Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman and Assistant Attorney Marlene Senechal to take a stand against hate, racism, and transphobia. Tell Freeman and Senechal to DROP THE CHARGES against Chrishaun McDonald!

!!NEW!! Please CC mpls4cece@gmail.com on all your e-mails. Also please send us an e-mail with the time of your calls & faxes.

OPERATION ZIP CODE BEGINS

500 Postal Workers & Allies Demonstrate Outside Manhattan PO To Fight Post Office Cutbacks and Their Effects on Communities

AND SAY “NO TO UNION-BUSTING, RACISM & PRIVATIZATION”

On Saturday, the 42-year anniversary of the Great Postal Strike of 1970, 500 people protested outside of Manhattan’s main post office against closings, layoffs and cutbacks of the centuries-old system.

Called by the coalition called Community-Labor United for Postal Jobs and Services (CLUPJS), the rally was the opening shot of Operation Zip Code, a campaign to stop the 1% plan to privatize the post office.

The spirit of that strike, which pushed back racism by raising wages of postal workers and combatting hiring discrimination, was rekindled by Saturday’s 20-block march that began at Union Square and stopped along the way at a post office on 15th Street.

From the Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island and every borough, protesters came from different zip codes where they are fighting various survival struggles, including re-opening or keeping open their post offices.

Organizers say the next phase of the campaign will be to re-open mail processing centers that are now being closed, and cited the delegation in the rally from Frederick, MD — where the shutdown of a mail processing center has sparked a community struggle — as the leading edge of this fight.

On the same day that Occupy protesters battled police to re-take Zucotti Park, rally organizers solidarized themselves with the tactics of the dynamic movement, with Johnnie Stevens of CLUPJS saying that the fight to re-open processing centers will require “Operation Zip Code’s to become Occupation Zip Code.”

Speakers at the rally included Occupy Wall Street activists; representatives from postal worker and other unions including NALC Branc 36, APWU, CWA Local 1180, Teamsters Local 808 and TWU Local 100; and community groups such as the Chelsea Coalition on Housing, Picture the Homeless, National Action Network Youth Move, the South Bronx Community Congress and La Peña del Bronx.

With similar demonstrations against postal cuts scheduled for March 31 and April 6 all organizations are also planning for MayDay 2012 as the next big step in the fight against the 1%.
