1.Tues., Jan. 10, 7:00 pm: Monthly coalition meeting (every 2nd Tuesday), at Central United Methodist Church, 639 N. 25th St., Milwaukee (with free off street parking south of the church). Agenda to include the upcoming events below, plus the plans to bring an art display from the still-imprisoned Cuban 5.
2. Tues., Jan. 24, 2012, 7:30 pm: Teacher/activist Omar Barberena’s multimedia presentation on his recent trip to Cubawith Witness for Peace, at Central United Methodist Church, 639 N. 25th St., Milwaukee. Contact us for a flyer for this event & note that he is planning to lead a WFP trip to Cuba later this year.
3. Feb. 22 (Ash Wednesday), 7:00 pm: Rev. Dr. Luis Barrios, new co-chair of Pastors for Peace, will speak in the UWM Union’s Fireside Lounge during his visit to Milwaukee. We expect him to speak then on issues related to “Social Justice, Liberation Theology & Cuba,” including information on how U.S. students can become doctors through Cuba’s free Latin American School of Medicine.
Please contact us if you are interested in having Dr. Barrios speak while he is here on other topics, as he is also a highly esteemed author and speaker on: Youth & the Criminal Justice System (including his work with and study of the transformation of the Latin King and Queen Nation in NYC), and on immigration/deportation issues, based on his work with and study of U.S. deportations to the Dominican Republic, and on the exploitation of Haitians on the Dominican/Haitian border.For more information on Rev. Lila Kara’s home at 1433 W. Lombard Street in Baltimore, is the subject of a foreclosure proceeding. On Saturday, Jan. 8, 2012, a rally was held in front of her home. Her case is pending in the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. Nevertheless, the bank is pushing to have the Sheriff of Baltimore City evict her this Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at or around 10 AM.
