Hey y’all,

Four of us from the Coalition to March on the DNC will be heading out to the United National Anti-war Coalition conference in New York City! Activists from around the US will be attending this conference to support the national anti-war effort. The Coalition to March on the DNC will be going to secure endorsements from a multitude of organizations that will be attending. We are also being given a slot of time to speak to hundreds of activists, explaining the importance of our coalition.

It’s important to get the endorsement and participation of activists around the country to show the DNC that we are tired of corporate politics as usual. This is a chance for various orgs to be shown in a national spotlight and have a chance to get on the mainstream consciousness. Activists in the coalition are spending their money and time to attend this conference because we understand the urgency of organizing against the DNC. This GoFundMe is being created to cover the cost of lodging and travel for the four coalition organizers that will be heading out to NYC. The organizers attending this conference also organize in groups Students for a Democratic Society (Parkside), Young People’s Resistance Committee, and Young Workers Committee!

The Coalition To March on the DNC advocates for a people’s agenda and the following 9 points of unity amongst coalition members.

– End U.S. Wars & Interventions

– End Police Terror & Community Control of the Police

– Legalization for All & No More Deportations

– Tax the Rich

– Medicare for All

– Climate Action Now

– Fight to Expand Union and Worker’s Rights

– Peace, Justice, & Equality

– Wage War on Poverty, Not the Poor

We have been working hard on winning the endorsement of organizations nationally and locally. We’ve already got a pretty huge list of orgs that endorse and support our coalition. The Coalition to March on the DNC has also successfully hosted rallies attended by thousands of people! It’s important to support grassroots organizing, and every dollar counts for a lot.

Thanks y’all! Any support would mean the world to us.

Madison, Feb. 29, 2020: No F35s – Parade to Truax Field

No F35s – Parade to Truax Field, Feb. 29

Safe Skies Clean Water-Wisconsin, the lead group actively opposing the F-35 basing at Truax Field, has called for a peaceful mass mobilization, “No F-35s! Parade to the Gates of Truax” from Noon to 2:00 on Saturday, February 29.

Join the mass mobilization of visible and peaceful opposition to the basing of F-35 war planes at Truax Field. The parade and presence at the gates of Truax will send a clear message to the Air Force and local proponents that the jets are not wanted for numerous reasons.

The timing is crucial. The final version of the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) is due out in late February. The final decision on whether or not to base the attack jets at Truax will follow 30 days after. The military is paying attention to public sentiment as they make their decision.

Compliance 101: Gun-Toting Cops Endanger Students and Turn the Schools into Prisons

https://bit.ly/2ueCyYY

“Every day in communities across the United States, children and adolescents spend the majority of their waking hours in schools that have increasingly come to resemble places of detention more than places of learning.”—Investigative journalist Annette Fuentes

Just when you thought the government couldn’t get any more tone-deaf about civil liberties and the growing need to protect “we the people” against an overreaching, overbearing police state, the Trump Administration ushers in even more strident zero tolerance policies that treat children like suspects and criminals, greater numbers of school cops, and all the trappings of a prison complex (unsurmountable fences, entrapment areas, no windows or trees, etc.).

The fallout has been what you’d expect, with the nation’s young people treated like hardened criminals: handcuffed, arrested, tasered, tackled and taught the painful lesson that the Constitution (especially the Fourth Amendment) doesn’t mean much in the American police state.

For example, in Florida, a cop assigned to River Ridge High School as a school resource officer, threatened to shoot a student attempting to leave school for a morning orthodontist appointment….

Chinese ambassador slams Pompeo’s ‘Cold War’ speech in Africa

https://bit.ly/3bTKPCJ

The Chinese ambassador to South Africa slammed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s speech during his tour of Africa as being soaked with a Cold war mentality that no one will believe. The ambassador urged Pompeo to abandon his outmoded thinking and learn to peacefully co-exist with other countries.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Ambassador Lin Songtian rebuked Pompeo, who is visiting Africa this week for the first time in his official capacity and who has criticized China’s engagement with Africa and China’s political system.

It is no surprise that Pompeo would make such a statement, considering his long background in the US intelligence service, but Mr. Pompeo convinces no one as his remarks have no audience, Lin said.

Lin said that at this crucial time, when Chinese people are united in the fight against COVID-19, Mr. Pompeo should endorse support for China, instead of smearing the Chinese political system. He also said that Chinese people should be the only judge of the Chinese political system.

Lin said capitalism could never have matched China’s achievements in fighting the virus, including the building of two specialized hospitals with a capacity of about 2,600 beds in 10 days and the construction of 15 mobile cabin hospitals with a total capacity of more than 10,000 beds.

He asked if the US could match China’s achievement in mobilizing all of its 1.4 billion people to follow government instructions to stay at home and quarantine themselves for more than 14 days to curb the spread of the virus inside and beyond China.

He asked if the US could achieve China’s effort to mobilize 19 provinces and municipalities to support cities in Hubei province to fight against the virus, and its effectiveness in getting all people and every Party member to join the virus containment campaign swiftly after they were given the order.

He asked if the US could manage to help 800 million people shake off poverty within 40 years, like China did, and promised to help bring all 1.4 billion Chinese out of poverty by the end of 2020.

Lin also criticized the US attempt to ring-fence Huawei, China’s tech giant, as a deterrent against the fourth industrial revolution, which also exposes the US’ lack of confidence and weak security system.

He said that Huawei is the bellwether of the world’s 5G technology and biggest network equipment supplier worldwide. Huawei and other Chinese companies have helped Africa to build 80 percent of its major network infrastructure and benefited many African people.

Lin pointed out that the US forced its allies to suspend cooperation with Huawei but failed to provide an alterative option, which deprives Japan, Australia and Europe of the opportunity for joining the fourth industrial revolution and for development. He said he believes those countries will see through the US conspiracy and make the right choice.

Come Out to Help Free Mumia Abu-Jamal! Feb. – April 2020 Philly Actions

Come out for Mumia’s freedom

DA Larry Krasner to supposed announce whether or not he challenges Mumia’s appeals on Feb 28. We call for Mumia’s release.

Abu-Jamal’s supporters rallied outside Philadelphia District Attorney ‘s office on Friday, January 31, on the day he was expected to announce his response to legal briefs for Post Conviction Relief Act hearings and a request to remand Mumia Abu-Jamal’s case back to Common Pleas court, filed by his attorneys in early September 2019.

Krasner instead asked the court for a 30-day postponement.
Once again, after 38 years held behind bars for a crime Abu-Jamal is innocent of, justice continues to be denied.

Recent exonerations of 10 Philadelphia residents unfairly convicted for crimes they did not commit reveal a simple truth – the Philadelphia police, courts and prosecutors convict innocent Black men based on gross violations of their constitutional rights. The same patterns of constitutional violations plague the case of Abu-Jamal.”

Since Jan. 2018, investigations by the Conviction Integrity Unit of the DA’s office have resulted in exonerations of Sherman McCoy, James Frazier, Dwayne Thorpe, Terrance Lewis, Jamaal Simmons, Dontia Patterson, John Miller, Willie Veasey, Johnny Berry and Chester Holmann III.(Washingtonpost.com, 11/12/19)

Pam Africa of the MOVE Organization said to the crowd, “Krasner, do for Mumia what you’ve done for these men here.” Based on his innocence, he should be released like they were.

Philadelphia is not alone. The National Registry of Exonerations counted 165 exonerations in the US last year. The registry has tallied 2,500 wrongful convictions since 1989, costing defendants more than 22,000 years of incarceration.(law.umich.edu/special/exoneration)

Seven of the ten men released in Philadelphia were convicted by longtime district attorney Lynne Abraham, a “tough-on-crime” prosecutor who regularly sought maximum punishments and death sentences. In 1981, Common Pleas Court Judge Abraham arraigned Abu-Jamal and years later as District Attorney fought against his appeals in post conviction relief hearings.

Ineffective counsel, false witness testimony, witness coercion and intimidation, phony ballistics evidence, prosecution failure to turn over evidence to the defense as required by law, racist jury selection — these and other legal errors led to the exoneration of the 10 innocent defendants after decades in prison. These are the same injustice practices Abu-Jamal’s attorneys and supporters have been citing since 1982.

Food Sovereignty Delegation to Venezuela April 12-21, 2020

Sponsored by Manitos Children’s Fund and Alliance for Global Justice!

$1200 includes all meals, housing, in-country transportation, translation, and program, including participation in an international food sovereignty conference to celebrate International Day of the Peasant.

US Citizens need a visa to visit Venezuela. The hard deadline for the application and $200 deposit to be received by Manitos is March 12.

Send an email to info@ManitosChildrensFund.org to receive an application. Deposit and balance payment information will be on the application

Unilateral US sanctions against Venezuela have caused over 40,000 preventable deaths, mostly children, the elderly, and people with treatable illnesses. HIV positive patients, dialysis patients, and cancer patients no longer have reliable access to treatment because US sanctions cut off the government’s access to the international banking system and trade routes. Venezuela also imports most of its food, so food shortages have appeared since the Obama and Trump regimes imposed unilateral sanctions on the country.

Manitos Children’s Fund was formed to provide humanitarian aid which is legal even under sanctions. We have already raised the money and bought 18 tons of beans from Nicaraguan farm cooperatives for Venezuelan children and their families. This delegation will meet our second shipment which will include several tons of seeds to donate to Venezuelan farmer s as well as beans for the kids. The delegation will follow the beans and seeds from the port to the plate as we enable this special solidarity between the people of Nicaragua and Venezuela. Come with us and see for yourself the effects of US sanctions and life in Venezuela under the Bolivarian Revolution personified by Hugo Chavez!
