Hands Off The People’s Retirement Funds

Despite all of the talk we heard during the election, it’s shaping up to be more business as usual in Washington, D.C., for Wall Street. The Trump administration already has begun working with Wall Street lobbyists and Republicans in Congress to once again deregulate Wall Street at the expense of working people.

One of those regulations is called the fiduciary rule, and it is scheduled to take effect next month. This rule requires financial professionals who provide investment advice to retirement investors to put their clients’ best interest ahead of their own financial interest. It’s a commonsense rule to protect the retirement security of working families.

Right now, Wall Street bankers are aggressively fighting to delay and, ultimately, kill it. The Department of Labor already has said it wants to delay the rule, and we all know in D.C. that delay is a code word for killing something.

The Department of Labor is taking public comments on this rule and we need to flood the department with comments in support of the rule before the deadline on Friday, March 17.

Click here to tell the Trump administration to stop trying to kill the fiduciary rule and keep Wall Street from draining our retirement accounts.

Wall Street interests have lobbied hard to kill this rule since it first was proposed. They want to maintain the status quo so some financial advisers can get big commissions and kickbacks when they convince retirement investors to invest in certain products—even when those products are not in the best interest of their clients.

This rule is critical to promoting retirement security for working people. It means we will have more of our hard-earned funds available for a secure and dignified retirement.

Wall Street insiders are hoping they can keep their efforts to weaken this rule under the public’s radar. Let’s show them we’re not going to let them.

Tell the Trump administration to stop Wall Street from costing working people billions. The public comment deadline is this Friday.

Milwaukee, March 16: Cops Should NOT Have the Right To

http://tinyurl.com/hsc8nwn

Hosted by African-American Civic Engagement Roundtable

…be in pursuit of someone into a home and without a warrant enter the house.

If you believe the Milwaukee Police Department should NOT have a right to be in pursuit of someone and if that person enters a home the police have the right to enter the home with NO WARRANT.

The Milwaukee Police Department wants the Fire and Police Comission to make that reality by adding this to their SOP, Standard Operaing Policy.

COME AND SPEAK OUT AND RAISE YOUR VOICE at the Fire and Police Commission Meeting ABOUT WHY YOU THINK THIS WOULD BE A BAD POLICY TO ADD TO THEIR SOP’s.

The Agenda Items is labeled:
Request to Amend MPD SOP 220 – Arrest Authority

5:30 p.m.
Room 301-B, City Hall

Here’s what’s currently in place. What’s the reason for the change. Keep your eyes and ears open to everything you hear and see and what you don’t hear and see.

Workers World Party is creating a resistance machine

https://www.patreon.com/wwp

Building the Movement for this Moment and Beyond
Millions of people in the U.S. spent the past year watching communities of color rise up against police murder, racism, deportations, and theft of Indigenous lands. Millions more watched Trump become the 45th President of the United States. ICE agents are demanding papers from people disembarking from domestic flights; protest is becoming increasingly criminalized; decades of gains are being rolled back at the stroke of Trump’s pen. We must ask ourselves: where do we go from here?

For years now, the US press has faithfully reported that more than half of millennials reject capitalism. The majority believe socialism is the answer. We need to reach today’s anti-capitalist militants with revolutionary politics and organization that can shake this decaying system to its roots. We need to build broad public support for a network of resistance. We can’t do this without your active support.

Building the Party
Since November 2016, Workers World Party has grown exponentially by connecting with fighters who are interested in joining an anti-racist, anti-capitalist and anti-fascist revolutionary organization. New branches have popped up across the United States, and we are scaling-up the Party to operate successfully in this next phase of resistance and fight in ways that match the rapidly changing political landscape. We need your support to build a revolutionary socialist vanguard party. Historically, throughout the history of the United States and abroad, communists have provided the most effective fightback against racism & white supremacy. Without a strong organization capable of building the ranks of people who want to fight, we will soon find ourselves under the tank treads of the Trump regime.

Solidarity Centers
Resistance requires community, and communities need a place to meet. Our solidarity centers across the United States provide the physical space necessary to coordinate action, serve the community, and educate one another. Many activists eat a few meals a week at solidarity centers. We learn self defense and upstander strategies. We make signs and copies of literature to cover our cities. We ship newspapers all over the world. Many groups including the Peoples Power Assemblies, Philly Coalition for REAL Justice, Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice, International Working Women’s Coalition and the Brooklyn Anti-Gentrification Network meet at our Solidarity Centers.

Self Defense
Since January 20th, the movement has faced serious repression. Record numbers of people have taken to the streets, and the state and its right-wing vigilantes are cracking down in response. Hundreds of protesters face up to 10 years in prison and felony charges. People of color, migrants, women, queer, trans and gender non-conforming people are facing escalating violence from the right. Workers World organizes with those under attack to defend each other and fight back against this racist, misogynist, capitalist system.

The Newspaper
The paper is the backbone of our organization. It helps get out our message and coordinate our national strategy. For many people it is their first introduction to revolutionary politics. It is one of the few weekly revolutionary socialist newspapers still printed in the United States. The paper contains news and photos from a network of national and international correspondents at the front lines of resistance. The material is written, edited, translated, printed and distributed entirely by volunteers.

More than 30% of our current subscriber base is incarcerated. Political prisoners such as Mumia Abu Jamal, Leonard Peltier, the MOVE 9, and Rev. Edward Pinkney and so many other prisoners receive newspapers from the party. We produce a print edition of the paper in order to reach the incarcerated, as well as those without homes or reliable internet access. It is a critical tool for outreach, and one of the last print publications in the United States reporting faithfully on fightback in the streets. https://www.patreon.com/wwp

Viewpoint: Trump White House Escalates War on Yemen After Two Years of Bombing

By Abayomi Azikiwe, Editor, Pan-African News Wire

United States President Donald Trump paid special tribute to the widow of a Navy Seal, Ryan Owen, who was killed in what many say was a botched military operation in the Yemen highlands village of al-Ghayil in the Bayda province during the first week of his administration.

Calling the slain soldier a hero during his speech to a joint session of Congress, and not mentioning at all the deaths of Yemeni civilians slaughtered by weapons utilized for what many believed was an attempt to assassinate a leader of the Al-Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), Sheikh Abdel-Raouf al-Dhahab, the Trump administration signaled its commitment to continuing the genocidal war against this Middle Eastern country.

Contrasting the presence of Owen’s widow at the Trump speech, the father of the Navy Seal, William Owens, strongly disagreed that the raid was a success asking: “Why at this time did there have to be this stupid mission when it wasn’t even barely a week into [President Trump’s] administration? For two years prior … everything was missiles and drones (in Yemen)….Now all of a sudden we had to make this grand display?” (NBC News, Feb. 28)

GI Resisters Collection at Wisconsin Historical Society

http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/cdm/landingpage/collection/p15932coll8

This collection contains page images and searchable text of about 900 periodicals created by or for U.S. military personnel during the Vietnam War era. Most were produced underground by U.S. soldiers or veterans who opposed the war, using mimeograph machines or other inexpensive technology. When completed in 2016, the collection will share roughly 60,000 pages documenting the Vietnam War through the words of young people caught up in it. It will complement official records published by the U.S. government and the civilian underground press of the time, both of which are readily available elsewhere. http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/cdm/landingpage/collection/p15932coll8
