Urgent Request For Funds for Haiti From The Haiti Emergency Relief Fund
HAITI EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND
As we write this, Hurricane Matthew has slammed into Haiti, leaving thousands without shelter or food. The hurricane has devastated the city of Les Cayes and many villages in the Southwestern part of the country, destroying crops and livestock and reversing the gains in food production made by women’s agricultural cooperatives and other local farmers. Now the torrential rains and winds have hit the capital, Port-au-Prince. With massive flooding comes the increased danger of water-borne diseases, particularly cholera (brought to Haiti by UN troops), which has already reached epidemic proportions.
We ask that all friends of Haiti donate right now to the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund. Your donations will go directly to grassroots organizations on the ground in Haiti. With elections still scheduled for this coming Sunday, on October 9th, popular organizations in Haiti are hard at work trying to help families and communities while insuring that the election is free and fair and that Haiti’s poor majority is not blocked from voting or having their votes counted.
This is a critical time for us to step up our solidarity. Please send your tax-deductible funds to:

SOA Watch: Live from the Rally #ConvergenceAtTheBorder
Yesterday’s vigil at Eloy and kickoff in Sonora was amazing, and today is just getting started!
Right now there is a veteran-led march to the border wall happening on each side in the US and in Mexico, coming together for a joint rally. You can watch it and lots of events today here:
We will have all the weekend’s events in Eloy, Tucson, and Nogales, Arizona. You can join in, wherever you are in the world, and help spread the word! #ConvergenceAtTheBorder

In the first event last night, hundreds of migrants and activists gathered outside of the Eloy Detention Center in Arizona, to call for the release of the incarcerated migrants, for an end to profiteering of human suffering, and for justice for all.
The Convergence continues today, Saturday, October 8, with concurrent veteran-led marches from both sides of the border to the US/Mexico border wall, where a rally with speakers and musicians is currently taking place. To listen to the speakers and musicians, tune into the livestream on the SOA Watch Border Convergence webpage: soaw.org/border/livestream
En solidaridad,

NYC, Nov. 11-13: Workers World Party National Conference
Join Workers World Party and hundreds of activists from around the country and the world for the annual WWP National Conference on Nov. 11-13 in New York.
2016 has seen nothing short of an assault on the movement for justice, liberation and self-determination. But it has also been an incredible year of struggle, where the most militant people have risen up to say no more to exploitation, violence and repression, all facilitated by capitalism.
The conference will come only days after the presidential elections. Working and oppressed people will, without a doubt, be disappointed by the results. But where will we go from there? How will we channel our righteous rage and frustration into action? These are the questions we will take up as we honor the brave young people, communities and organizers who have confronted power and are claiming the future.
Regardless of who becomes the next president of the United States, we know that the truth remains: So long as the U.S. has the ability to terrorize Black and Brown people at home and abroad, so long as workers can barely afford to live, so long as LGBTQ people and women are under attack, so long as the politicians, bosses and bankers rule our lives, we must fight, fight, fight!
If you are interested in learning about and discussing why we must keep fighting for socialism, join Workers World Party at the Malcolm X & Betty Shabazz Center in New York City — the historical site of the Audubon Ballroom, where Malcolm X was assassinated on Feb. 21, 1965.
The annual WWP National Conference will convene revolutionaries and organizers from the frontlines of struggles, from Black Lives Matter to Palestine Solidarity, from anti-war to Fight for $15, from the LGBTQ struggle to women’s liberation and immigrants’ rights.
We lift up the struggles that need solidarity, not only here in the U.S. but also around the world — to end the blockade still on Cuba, end U.S. war aggression in Syria, stop the subversion of Venezuela, and show solidarity with migrants to the U.S. and the European Union. We lift up the banners of internationalism and socialist unity to build toward a revolution that will liberate all workers and oppressed people.
We choose ourselves — not the warmonger Hillary Clinton who called Black youths “predators,” not the hate-mongering billionaire Donald Trump who nurtures Klan and Nazi types. We choose solidarity — not the state’s tools of division, not the comfort of isolation.
We choose the movement — not the lies of the election, not the idea that the powers that be will fall on their own. We choose a path to revolution — not the lure of a softer, kinder capitalism, not another day of chains and cages. Let us continue to build the movement against capitalism, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia and more!
Black Lives Matter! Defend Native sovereignty! Abolish the police! Smash capitalism! LGBTQ liberation now! End women’s oppression! Free Palestine! The working class has no borders!

Stop McDonald’s shocking sexual harassment
We’re DONE keeping quiet.
For too long, McDonald’s has shirked responsibility for workers who face sexual harassment on the job.
McDonald’s has ignored calls to help – and never addressed the core problem. Now, 40% of all female fast-food workers report sexual harassment on the job.
We get paid next to nothing – and treated even worse. ENOUGH!
Right now, as you read this, me and thousands of others are taking the fight straight to McDonald’s door. Across the country we are protesting outside McDonald’s, demanding that they stop harassment at their stores now.
Add your voice – tell McDonald’s: End rampant sexual harassment at your stores TODAY.
McDonald’s has the power to crack down on sexual harassment at their stores. They can increase punishment for offenders and make reporting easier for targeted employees.
Instead, they keep silent. Worse, they IGNORE the women and men brave enough to come forward and reach out for help on their own.
It’s wrong – and it needs to stop now.
Sign the petition to END sexual harassment at McDonald’s. We deserve better!
The statistics are shocking – female fast-food workers experience 60% MORE sexual harassment than other industries.
Far more devastating, however, are the stories. Yesterday, we released a video sharing the stories of fast-food cooks and cashiers harassed on the job. If you missed it, watch it now.
Thanks for standing with us.

Oct. 6: Wisconsin Day to Reclaim Our Schools
This national action will help shift the public debate and build a national movement for strong public schools for every child.
Here in Milwaukee, we will be organizing one of two powerful actions at each school around public education funding. Each school will hold either a morning walk-in or an afternoon neighborhood walk with parents, students, community members, and educators.
These actions will help us build our movement to expose and reverse the funding inequities that exist in Wisconsin’s public schools.
Begin organizing your school community’s Oct. 6 action today! Talk with your MTEA building leaders and register at mtea.org.
