Milwaukee, June 9: Wisconsin Prisoner Hunger Strike: Information Session

IWW Milwaukee: Please join us for a discussion on the hunger strike being planned by prisoners in Wisconsin starting June 10, and what we can do to support them. At least six prisoners in Waupun and Columbia Correctional Institute will be initiating a food refusal, challenging the abusive policies of solitary confinement by Wisconsin Department of Corrections. We will read letters and “Declarations of Dissent” from these prisoners, give updates on upcoming activity happening on the inside and outside, and talk about what we can do to strengthen organizing to support prisoner resistance.

This will not be running according to “activist time”, session will start at listed time. Please come whenever you can, if possible be here at 6. If you’re unable to attend this session, you can still participate in the phone zap beginning on Friday, June 10, see event page:

Hear Luisa Campos, Director of Cuba’s famed Museum of Literacy, along with the inspiring film “Maestra,” a short documentary on how young women participating in Cuba’s successful campaign against illiteracy not only made Cuba one of the most literate nations, but also were empowered in terms of their own expectations and self-image. Luisa Campos will speak on Cuba’s “Yo Si Puedo” program, which has been used around the world to successfully combat illiteracy, not only throughout Latin America, but as far away as Australia, where it has also been credited with helping to keep marginalized aboriginal people out of jail (see

Detroit Eviction Defense: Emergency – Help Jennette Shannon fight for home & justice

http://www.detroitevictiondefense.org/
A woman who did nothing wrong now scheduled for eviction Friday, June 3

On May 17 a court ordered that Shannon will face eviction. The bailiff arrived Thurs. June 2 and said the eviction could be expected the next day, Friday. DED is helping her resist eviction at 17127 Stansbury, Detroit.

Shannon purchased her Detroit home in 2010 from Thor Real Estate LLC for $15,000 on a land contract — with an understanding that the company was responsible for paying the property taxes, and that the amount for taxes was added into her monthly payment.

But the year after she moved in with her daughter and son, she was shocked to be told by Thor’s attorney that her house payment was being jacked up by almost $100 a month to pay the property taxes.

Shannon discovered that Thor LLC hadn’t paid any property taxes since 2008. Then she found out that Thor has diverted over 400 unpaid waters bills to California, unknown to homeowners.

Read her amazing story — and how you can help, with a couple of phone calls & more.

African Americans Locked Out…’For change to be effective it must take on an anti-capitalist character’

By Abayomi Azikiwe
Editor, Pan-African News Wire

“…In an article published as part of the State of Black America report, Joy-Ann Reid, a national correspondent for MSNBC, predicts that “Whether the next president is a Democrat or Republican, Black leadership will likely be pressed as never before to deliver on the ‘hope floor’ laid by the election of the first Black president…In short, the Age of Hope is poised to give way to the Era of Radical Demands for Change.”

For this era of radical demands for change to be effective it must take on an anti-capitalist character. There is most of all a dramatic need for the redistribution of wealth from the ruling class to the working class and the nationally oppressed. This transferal of wealth can only occur under a socialist system which would guarantee full employment, income equality, housing and education for everyone along with the total liberation of the African American people and all oppressed nations.” https://www.newsghana.com.gh/african-americans-remains-locked-out-urban-league/
