The police cordoned off the area pushing the Coalition into the crowd. They started to sing their protest songs and the police swooped in after a few minutes and arrested Nate Hamilton, a man playing a drum, and Jennifer Epps-Addison.

Justice For Jamar! Release The Tapes! Arrest Killer Cops Not Black Lives Matter Activists!

Yesterday, Minnesota officials released the names of the police who fatally shot Jamar Clark in the head: Officer Mark Ringgenberg and Officer Dustin Schwarze. Both officers have been sued in the past for violence, false arrests and threats.1

Local officials are refusing to release various videos they have of the killing, choosing instead to ramp up militarized police violence against growing peaceful protests. Right now, activists are camped out at the 4th precinct facing pepper spray, arrest and rubber bullets, while Ringgenberg and Schwarze are on paid leave. We will need a groundswell of voices to get to the bottom of what happened to Jamar and secure the justice his family deserves.

Will you join more than 50,000 ColorOfChange members in demanding police release all videos relating to the police killing of Jamar Clark?

The reality is, Jamar’s killing hit a nerve for thousands of Black youth in Minneapolis, a city like so many others in America where systemic anti-Black police violence is rampant. Minneapolis police are nearly 6 times more likely to stop and arrest Black teens than white teens for low level issues, such as “curfew violations.”3 From 2006 to 2012, Minneapolis paid out $14 million for police misconduct, but leadership almost never disciplined officers. In 2014, there was an average of 1.2 complaints against each Minneapolis police officer.4 And now, law enforcement are denying the eye-witness testimony of dozens of children, teens and adults who witnessed the shooting and say police shot Jamar “execution style.” In order to help this suffering community heal, local officials need to release these videos, expose the truth, and begin the hard work of moving forward.

The Truth Behind the Paris Murders

Statement From United National Antiwar Coalition  (UNAC), http://nepajac.org/paris.htm

“…The United National Antiwar Coalition stands opposed to all U.S. and allied imperialist intervention in Syria, Iraq and the Middle East. In truth, the horrors that we witness across this battered and blighted region today are the direct result of U.S. wars, interventions and sanctions. Had this not been the case, had the people of the Middle East been able to exercise their right to self-determination, free from all imperialist intervention in all its manifestations, they would have long ago been fully capable of resolving their internal conflicts.

The tragic colonial history of this region, long ago carved up between the post WWI and WWII great power allies has been the imposition of one after another dictator while the people’s history has been one after another struggle to free themselves from foreign domination.

UNAC demands:

No to racist discrimination and Islamophobia!

Civil and democratic rights for all!

No to all imperialist wars and interventions!

U.S. and all imperialist troops Out Now!

Self-determination for the nations of the Middle East!

Provide shelter and aid to the millions of refugees displaced by war and economic ruin!

Support Students Occupying President’s Office At Princeton

Friends:

Students at Princeton University are having a sit in at the president’s office and others are protesting outside in support of them.  I support these students at Princeton and all the others protesting racism, injustice, and inequality at colleges and universities across the country. These students need and deserve our support. Please call the Princeton University president’s office and voice support for the student’s demands and request that the administration take no action against these students for their act of conscience and that all of them be given amnesty. The students need our material support and moral support. They need blankets, sleeping bags, the big flip style writing pads for group presentations and magic markers.  They have also asked us to reach out to any press contacts so people will know what’s going on with the sit-in. Ask your press contacts to call Destiny Crockett at 314 327-9340. She is a student at Princeton and is one of those participating in the sit-in. You can also call her to make material donations and to offer moral support.  Attached are the students’ demands.

House votes to discriminately block Syrian & Iraqi refugees

American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee

Washington, DC | www.adc.org | November 19, 2015 – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to discriminately block Syrian and Iraqi refugees from resettlement in the U.S. on the basis of their national origin. ADC strongly condemns and is deeply disapointed in the House vote following today’s refugee hearing.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 289 to 137 to pass an anti-Refugee bill called the “American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act.” The House vote represents a vote for fear and xenophobia. It also discriminates against Syrians and Iraqis on the basis of their national origin.

The effect of this bill is to block refugees from coming to the U.S. by creating more hurdles to an already stringent process. The U.S. already has a vigorous 18-24 month vetting process for refuges. If it becomes law, this bill would require the most stringent vetting ever for refugees. It would require the nation’s three top security officials — the Homeland Security secretary, FBI director and national intelligence director — to certify to Congress that each individual Syrian or Iraqi refugee is not a security threat before the refugee can be admitted into the U.S.

Take Action: Urge your Senators to block the house bill, not refugees

Nation’s longest strike at Kohler offers lessons for today’s unions

Wisconsin Labor History Society: http://tinyurl.com/p7q4odm

The longest strike in U.S. history – UAW Local 833 vs. Kohler Co – began in the company town of Kohler, Wisconsin, with massive picket lines on April 5, 1954 and did not end until a settlement in 1966.

The strike may have been one of the most important in our nation’s history and offers insights into how to rebuild labor’s power in the current era, according to speakers at the 33rd Annual Conference of the Wisconsin Labor History Society held May 17 at the Emil Mazey Hall in Sheboygan.  The conference covered three decades of labor struggles at the plant, including the first strike for recognition that lasted from 1934 to 1941.

Several Local 833 retirees who walked the picket lines in the 1954 strike spoke at the conference, describing how worker solidarity sustained them through the long struggle and how various strategies helped to win near total victory… http://tinyurl.com/p7q4odm

Solidarity Statements For Striking UAW Local 833 Members

TO UAW LOCAL 833
FROM AUTOWORKER CARAVAN

As an organization of rank-and-file autoworkers, we want to salute you for rejecting Kohler Company’s insulting contract offer. Two-tier wages and benefits sap worker solidarity, which is absolutely vital as we work side-by-side.

In the recent contract negotiations with FCA, GM and Ford, it was clear that ending two-tier was the primary issue on the shop floor. Now you have rejected the notion that union members would vote for a $10 an hour difference in pay for 400 second tier workers! We also note the employer tactic of throwing workers the bone of a bonus when there will be higher health care costs.

We encourage you to stand strong in your strike in Sheboygan. We will do our part to spread word of your fight by sending this message to rank-and-file autoworkers and urging united support. Solidarity!

TO UAW LOCAL 833
FROM AFSCME Local 526

AFSCME Local 526 (Milwaukee Public Museum Employees) stands in solidarity with the 2,000 Kohler workers who are on strike to win higher pay and an end to the two-tier wage system. As trade unionists we believe in the principles of equal pay for equal work, the right to a living wage, and the power of solidarity.

UAW 833 is fighting against a two-tier wage system that betrays future workers and undermines those principles. The strength of UAW 833 is in their unity and determination as evidenced by the fact that 94 percent of the union’s members voted to strike.

Past struggles of Kohler workers, including the longest strike in U.S. history, have inspired the labor movement for generations. The current action by UAW 833 will play an important role in the post “right to work” era in Wisconsin, showing labor unions once again how to bring back the fight and win for working people.

(Passed at AFSCME Local 526 November 17, 2015 membership meeting )

EMERGENCY CONFERENCE TO SAVE REV. PINKNEY

DETROIT, MICHIGAN

Rev. Pinkney’s family and supporters agree that his life is in danger. Racist guards are whipping up hostility among the 80% white prisoners against Rev. Pinkney. He lacks clean clothes, decent food, adequate medical care and exercise. Rev. Pinkney turned 67 at the end of October. We need to come together to put this critical situation before the whole nation and the entire world.
