Milwaukee, Feb. 23: Rally to Stop “Right to Work” (For Less) in Wisconsin

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/pjlbx64

Rally to Stop “Right to Work” in Wisconsin
5:00pm Monday Feb 23
Zeidler Union Square
4th and Michigan, Milwaukee, WI

We say: NO “Right to Work” for Wisconsin!

Plans to introduce so-called ‘Right to Work’ legislation are threatening to make Wisconsin the 25th state to eliminate all union contracts with mandatory dues as part of employment. This weakens working people’s right to collectively bargain for better wages and decent working conditions. So-called “right to work” states have much lower pay, workers make nearly $6,000 less per year. Workers also face 54% more workplace fatalities, 15% higher poverty rate, and 16% fewer health benefits, to name a few.

Worker’s are ready to fight ‘Right to Work’ because ‘Right to Work’ is not about democracy or choice, it’s an attack from big business on the working people of Wisconsin.

Madison, Feb. 23: State Of The Student

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/nqjvelg

State of the Union, State of the State…..Here’s the State of the Student!

Join the speakers in amplifying our voices against the cuts and changes in public higher education in WI!

WHO: The President of United Council, a high school Junior from Milwaukee, two Student Government Presidents (one at a two year the other at a four year), a UW-Madison graduate student, and a UW-Madison professor.

WHAT: The general focus will be on divestment in Wisconsin families and their access to affordable and accessible education. We will shed light on the effects of the budget cuts and the negative impacts for students, faculty and underserved communities in this budget proposal. We will also highlight the students’ vision of what true support from the state should look like in order to #SaveOurUW!

WHEN: 11:00AM, 23rd of February.

WHERE: Wisconsin Capitol Senate Parlor.

WHY: The Legislators and the Governor need a call to action to reinvest in education. This call must be done by those the most affected by the cuts: students, UW system employees, and, the future of Wisconsin, k-12 students.

Fight Imperialism Stand Together (FIST) Statement from Feb. 2011 during the state capitol occupation in Madison

STATEMENT: http://tinyurl.com/q8z6bju

What must be done? A war has been unleashed on the workers. The rights and wages of workers are being viciously curtailed. There is no future in worrying about the profitability of corporations because profit is derived from exploitation. There is no future in workers and students worrying about the deficits of local, state or the federal government all the while that trillions are used to wage war on Third World countries to steal their resources.

Workers and students need to fight back, to mobilize and be in the streets. Fight like a Wisconsinite! Fight like an Egyptian! Fight for the wealth our labor creates! Build student and worker fightback committees to struggle for jobs, education and health care for all. Fight against racism, anti-immigrant, anti-Islam bigotry, sexism and homophobia! On to May Day! All power to the workers and students!
