Black Liberation Month: http://panafricannews.blogspot.com/
The following are excerpts from an African American History Month lecture delivered by Mr. Abayomi Azikiwe at Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, on Feb. 11, 2015:
“…Not only should we seriously study African American, African and world history, but we must make history ourselves. Racist violence against African Americans and other oppressed people must be eradicated because “Black Lives Matter.”
The task of the present generation is to ensure that the legacies of our heroes and “sheroes” continue. We have to eliminate poverty and national oppression.
Our communities need our assistance to build organizations that will take on the true predators which are the banks and corporations with have looted Detroit and other major cities around the U.S.
The recent upsurge in mass demonstrations since the police murder of Michael Brown in Aug. of last year portends much for 2015. We must join this movement to make our contribution to the liberation of our people and humanity in general.” / [Full remarks: http://www.spyghana.com/youth-must-broaden-horizons-meet-challenges/]
Coup Plot in Venezuela Thwarted
teleSUR: http://tinyurl.com/p7zw88k
“…[President] Maduro stated that the plot, which was scheduled to coincide with anti-government demonstrations planned for the one-year anniversary of the start of violent, opposition-led demonstrations which began last Feb. 12, was uncovered after military officials who had been approached to participate reported the schemes to authorities.
Maduro called on the Venezuelan people to be on alert and prepared to maintain peace in the country in the face of continued attempts by sectors of the right wing who seek to overthrow the democratically-elected government.”

Madison, Feb. 10: “Build the People, Not the Jail!” Raise Your Voice. #BlackLivesMatter
EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/mj3yhtr
Young, Gifted and Black will be out today, again, attending the PPJ meeting Tuesday Feb 10th at 5:15pm. We will begin with a teach-in, inside the City County building at 4:30pm.
In the PPJ meeting, Sherriff Mahoney will be arguing for monies to be spent on jails. We the YGB, and all of us who are on the side of freedom, will be there to advocate that monies be instead invested in Black communities. Build the people, not the jail!
We must all show up, share our stories, speak our truth, share our data—and continue to fight for liberation!
Show up today and say yes to communities, no to jails! As the chant goes, “show me what democracy looks like”
We continue to push for our demands:
• We demand an injunction of the proposed 8 million dollars for the study related to the remodeling or building a new jail, and for that money to be relocated to Black community led resources
• We demand the release of 350 Black people incarcerated due to crimes of poverty from the Dane County Jail
• We demand the end of solitary confinement
