Statement and News Release from the People’s Power Assembly:

Facebook illegally shuts down support of “If Trump steals the election” November 4 protest

On the evening of 10/28/20, 14 organizers who were affiliated with the Baltimore March and Car Caravan for November 4, had their Facebook pages disabled; all were administrators or editors on various Facebook pages that endorsed the action including:  Peoples Power Assembly, Youth Against War & Racism, Prisoner’s Solidarity Committee, Women In Struggle/ Mujeres En Lucha, and Struggle La Lucha.  This action effectively locked down all of these pages denying thousands of members their constitutional rights.

The Peoples Power Assembly page which has over 11,000 followers was disabled along with several other pages affiliated with the event.

Prior to this lockout, the Peoples Power Assembly’s main phone was barraged with harassing calls from Trump supporters and calls from the Department of Homeland Security connected to the Baltimore federal courthouse.

Some of the above groups including Struggle La Lucha and Women In Struggle are national and have been targeted.

It is important to note that the PPA in Baltimore has led protests of thousands of people since Spring demanding justice against racism and police terror.  There can be no mistake that these actions are an effort to silence that movement.

Sharon Black, an organizer with the Peoples Power Assembly, stated:

“We take these attacks very seriously, they are a violation of our constitutional rights and are a blatant attempt to shut down organizing for the November 4th march and car caravan in opposition to the possibility of Trump stealing the upcoming election.

It is also an attempt to silence a “Peoples Mandate” which calls for jobs or income now, stimulus for workers, not billionaires; and end to racism and police terror, community control now; health care for all; no evictions, foreclosures, or utility shutoffs; safe work conditions and hazard pay; no wars or sanction, feed the people not the Pentagon.

This unconstitutional and undemocratic attack on our movement is a threat to activists and the general community everywhere and we are monitoring this closely to see if these attacks become more widespread as we get closer to the election.

At present we will mobilize mass support both locally and nationally against these illegal attacks and also seek legal remedies.

Our movement is united and strong and will not be deterred or defeated.”

The Peoples Power Assembly is calling a Press Conference, Friday, October 30, 2020, 12 noon outside of our offices in front of 2011 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21218, rain or shine.

By William Camacaro

The decisive electoral victory of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) in Bolivia may be a point of inflection on the continent that advances the construction of a new South American socialist bloc.

After having been removed from power by a military coup with fascist, anti-Indigenous, and neoliberal elements a year ago, ex-president Evo Morales, with his allies, presidential candidate Luis Arce and vice-presidential candidate David Choquehuanca, declared victory in the elections that came to a close on the evening of October 18. According to an exit poll, Arce, who served as Minister of Finance in the Morales administration, was leading in the presidential contest with 52.4 percent of the vote and ex-president Carlos Mesa came in second place with 31.5 percent. The right wing candidate Luis Camacho, allied with the de facto president Jeanine Añez, follows in a distant third place, with only 14.1 percent of the vote. Añez and Mesa have both recognized the outcome of the election…

Bolivia To Restore Ties With Cuba And Venezuela

Telesur, October 26, 2020– Bolivia’s President-elect Luis Arce on Monday proposed to resume relations with Venezuela and Cuba, two countries the coup-born regime had severed ties with.
Arce stressed his government’s willingness to maintain relations with any country over the premise of mutual respect and sovereignty. “We are going to re-establish all relations. This government has acted very ideologically, depriving the Bolivian people of access to Cuban medicine, Russian medicine, and advances in China,” he said. “For a purely ideological issue, it has exposed the population in a way unnecessary and harmful.”

Western Mass Labor Federation: ‘Prepare for and enact a general strike of all working people’

Western Mass Area Labor Federation

October 2020

Whereas, the Western Massachusetts Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO is committed to the defense of democratic rights and the institutions of democracy regardless of party affiliations in our nation, and;

Whereas, the strengthening of democratic institutions is vital for confronting the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate emergency, white supremacy, the drastic inequality of wealth and power, and other crises facing our country and the world, and;

Whereas, the current President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, and Vice-President Mike Pence, have consistently refused to state publicly that they will respect the outcomes of the election and, in the case of their loss, concede their offices,and;

Whereas, numerous public officials, including the President, have begun a concerted campaign of dismantling of key infrastructure, such as the U.S. Postal Service, and have engaged in clear acts of voter suppression and misinformation designed to sow mistrust in the integrity of our national elections, and;

Whereas, workers in Western Massachusetts and throughout the United States must be steadfast in defense of our democracy in the face of President Trump’s neo-fascist tactics, including his repeated refusal to denounce white supremacist paramilitary organizations that have stated desires to overthrow American democracy, and;

Whereas, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumkahas stated clearly that, “The AFL-CIO categorically rejects all threats to the peaceful transition of power,” and, that, “America’s workers will continue to be steadfast in defense of our democracy in the face of President Trump’s antics, and we stand ready to do our part to ensure his defeat in this election, followed by his removal from office”;and;

Whereas, Union members across the political spectrum are united in a fundamental belief that the votes of the American people must always determine the presidency, and;

Whereas, the Labor Movement and trade unions have played a proud and vital role in protecting democracy and opposing authoritarianism in many nations throughout the world, and;Whereas, the presidency of Donald Trump has been a disaster for the labor movement, the nation and the world, posing extreme risks to the historic institutions of democracy in our nation which may require more widespread and vigorous resistance than at any time in recent history, and;

Whereas,the most powerful tool of the Labor Movement in our history has been the power of the General Strike, and;Therefore, now be it resolved that the Western Mass Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO stands firmly in opposition to any effort to subvert, distort, misrepresent or disregard the final outcome of the 2020 Presidential elections, and;

Therefore, be it finally resolved that the Western Mass Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO calls on the Massachusetts State and National offices of the AFL-CIO, all affiliate unions, and all other labor organizations in the United States of America to prepare for and enact a general strike of all working people, if necessary, to ensure a Constitutionally mandated peaceful transition of power as a result of the 2020 Presidential Elections.
