Coalition For Justice Demands Meeting With Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett & That Killer Cop Christopher Manney Be Charged

An effigy of Dontre Hamilton from Dec. 9, 2014 March-In, Sit-In, and Teach-In at City Hall. We were there to see the mayor, however as usual, when it comes to eliminating police brutality and holding our officers accountable for their crimes in our city, Justice is never home. Tonight we walked out of those doors after the mayor phoned in, next time we will stay until we turn those halls of shame and inaction into halls of justice, equity, and equality for all in our communities. This is our city, and we will not stop fighting until we change it. Period. #JusticeNow

As expected the Grand Jury exonerated Darren Wilson of the murder of Michael Brown, day of/day after demonstrations happened in more than 160 cities around the country and solidarity action took place in several countries. Even as we waited for the decision from the Grand Jury, Timir Rice, a 12 year old boy playing with a toy gun in a park in Cleveland was gunned down by police.  In New York, Akai Gurley was shot for taking the stairs instead of waiting for an elevator in his apartment building.  Cops killing Blacks is simply the norm in the U.S. today.

The response of the government is simply to continue and increase the militarization of the police department in cities across the country.  Just as the U.S. government cannot resolve international disputes without waging wars on the oppressed people of the earth, the wars at home are waged by a militarized police force against people of color and working people without any validation of their rights or concessions to their complaints. The goal abroad and domestically is also the same – to crush resistance and to maintain domination of the military/industrial/financial capitalist system. UNAC urges all activists to continue to come out in a massive show of solidarity with those who suffer most by police brutality.

Milwaukee, December 9: Whose City? Our City! Rally and March For Justice

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/lnvm6t2

Tuesday, December 9 at 4 p.m., Red Arrow Park, 1000 N. Water Street, Milwaukee

Dontre Hamilton was shot 14 times at Red Arrow Park on April 30, 2014. Its been 7 months since former Milwaukee Police Officer Christopher Manney viciously murdered him, however there has been no decision made on whether or not he operated outside of police protocol when he fired 14 bullets into an unarmed man, for sleeping in a public park.

We can not stand for this kind of negligence and reckcless disregard for human life any longer, especially from those individuals who take an oath to protect and serve us. We must stand up to this system that brutalizes us, because OUR LIVES MATTER.

Please join us at Red Arrow Park (our Ground Zero) Tuesday December 9 at 4 pm as we rally and march to demand justice for Dontre and all of the men and women who have been victims of police brutality in our city and across this nation.

Beat Back Right-To-Work (For Less)? Yes, WE Can!: Build A People’s Movement!

WI Bail Out The People Movement APPEAL: http://tinyurl.com/p23fmq9

The attack on unions and our communities by Wisconsin’s governor and legislature is a declaration of war on the rights of poor and working people. Rallies alone won’t do. Wisconsin showed that even temporary occupations of the Capitol aren’t enough. This latest assault must be met with decisive direct action by organized labor and our allies.

The United Auto Workers Constitution gives us a weapon that can be used to fight and win. Article 50, Sec. 8 says:

“In case of great emergency, when the existence of the International Union is involved, together with the economic and social standing of our membership, the International President and the International Executive Board shall have the authority to declare a general strike within the industry by a 2/3 vote of the International Executive Board, whenever in their good judgment it shall be deemed proper for the purpose of preserving and perpetuating the rights and living standards of the general membership … provided, under no circumstances shall it call such a strike until approved by a referendum vote of the membership.”

The union busting “Right to Work” plans certainly fits this description.” A general strike is where all us workers take a holiday.

No general strike can be rushed into. Workers must be educated and the ground carefully prepared. Holding a referendum vote in every local union gives the opportunity to discuss this unprecedented attack and how to respond with every worker at every work place. The South Central Federation of Labor in Madison passed a resolution with similar plans in Feb. 2011.

Along with the UAW, the State AFL-CIO can urge every affiliate to initiate discussions and hold referendums to authorize a general strike. Mass strikes are part of our history—in the 1950’s, the Kohler strike, with the support of  Black and white workers, won and built UAW Local 833. In 1934, successful mass actions in Minneapolis, San Francisco and Toledo lifted the living standards of workers for generations.

The Wisconsin politicians are not acting alone. The RTW legislation was openly demanded by the Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce, the Bradley Foundation and other similar groups. The entire crowd of Wall Street bankers and corporate bosses, including GM, Ford, Chrysler and the billionaire Koch brothers and ALEC, are behind the push to break us in this stronghold and symbol of unionism.

After years of concessions, the bosses thought we were ready to collapse. By moving methodically, vote by vote, toward a general strike, the working class of Wisconsin will send a message that will sow panic in their ranks. Let the big business news media, politicians, judges and others will scream that it is illegal. As the words of the union song Solidarity Forever says, “In our hands is placed a power greater than their hoarded gold, greater than the might of armies magnified a thousand fold.” That power is our ability to bring everything to a standstill.

LABOR-COMMUNITY SOLIDARITY KEY

Unions are not a “special interest” apart from our suffering communities and all workers — unorganized, retired, young, immigrant or unemployed. Along with uniting all the unions we must bring in the many community groups affected. Labor must make their problems our own. “Social unionism” can take a big leap forward. While proceeding to authorize the general strike, unions and community groups should convene a huge assembly of the people in Wisconsin. Starting now, all union halls & resources should be available to fight RTW & to support community  struggles especially ones led by Black, Brown and poor white youth most of whom are unemployed or low-wage workers.

Community organizations, church leaders, people of color fighting back against police abuse, women, the LGBTQ community, the education community, foreclosure victims, the unemployed, low-wage workers, the Occupy Wall Street movement, immigrants and all others who are under attack by the international austerity assault, must be brought together to prepare for the general strike. Demands must be shaped to make the largest majority of the people of the state understand that we are fighting for everyone.

In a state where local and state politicians only represent the 1%, an assembly of the 99%, will have commanding authority! An Injury To One Is An Injury To All!

Rasmea is coming home! She’s to be released on $50,000 cash bond

We are pleased to announce that Judge Gershwin Drain just filed his ruling granting Rasmea’s motion for reconsideration of his November 10th order revoking her bond.  RASMEA IS COMING HOME!

The defense committee is working now to secure the money for her release.  Please help us raise it by donating HERE now!We also thank you all for your passionate work to help restore her freedom!  We believe that the hundreds of letters to the judge, and the incredible response to the county jail’s punitive measure of placing Rasmea in solitary confinement, played a major role in making this happen.  In the ruling, the judge wrote: “Defendant’s dedication to her community work and the people that such work assists, as well as the presence of relatives in Chicago, demonstrates by clear and convincing evidence that she is not as significant a flight risk as originally believed.”

In addition, all your letters to Rasmea helped keep her spirits , and strengthened her resolve to continue challenging the unjust ruling, detention, and treatment in jail.Of course, we are going to appeal the conviction, and there is still a ton of organizing work to be done, but today we celebrate and prepare to bring Rasmea home.  Thank you all for your support!

Milwaukee, December 9: What About Dontre? March From UWM to Red Arrow Park

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/pg4jtlk

On Tuesday afternoon, December 9, UW-Milwaukee students will lead a march from the student union to Red Arrow Park to show our solidarity in the resistance nationally and to participate in the resistance locally.

We will be marching from the UWM Student Union, 2200 E Kenwood Avenue,  at 2 pm. Anyone who would like to participate can meet us in the concourse at 2.

We will march to Red Arrow Park to meet up with an action taking place there at 4 pm that is being hosted by the Coalition for Justice.

Maria Hamilton, the woman warrior HERSELF, will be leading the ranks.

Dontre Hamilton was murdered 7 months ago by former MPD officer Christoper Manney. Manney has not been charged, has not been indicted, and justice has not been served.

The Hamilton family and supporters have been fighting fervently for justice and need the support and voice of students.

This is about building a community which nurtures not murders.

This is about engaging in the revolution at home.
Our people are not a statistic, they are not barbaric, they are valuable to the fabric of our community. Without them we would all unravel.

Join us as we show our city that student voice matters, black lives matter, and we will not stand for any more violence in our community as perpetrated by the MPD.
