Chicago: Protesters Call On Fannie Mae, Bank Of America To Change Lending, Foreclosure Policies

Article: http://tinyurl.com/nynsy9j

“Fannie Mae just blinks and looks the other way as homeowners are being driven from their homes,” said Steve Babson, a volunteer organizer with the Detroit Eviction Defense, who traveled to Chicago with roughly 40 activists to “crack down” on banks that are “running roughshod over people.”

“The Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac policies are letting the banks practice unjust foreclosures and evictions, because they can profit off of foreclosures, which in turn are destabilizing our neighborhoods,” he said. “It’s the banks that trashed the economy. It’s not the fault of homeowners that the value of their homes went down.”

Real Voices of the 1963 March on Washington

http://panafricannews.blogspot.com/

August 28, 1963 marks the 50th anniversary of that fateful day in Washington, D.C. when 300,000 people marched and rallied demanding jobs and freedom. Although in the corporate media this monumental historic event is often referenced, nonetheless, the actual march, the circumstances leading up to it and the organizations and personalities represented at the manifestation, have been largely lost in the public perception of people in the United States.

Milwaukee, August 26: BDS Vote at Riverwest Public House

http://tinyurl.com/mhqqhvt

From the Milwaukee Palestine Solidarity Coalition:

The Riverwest Public House Co-op board will consider endorsing the boycott of Israel. Please attend this board meeting at 815 E Locust St., and wear some Palestinian swag if you have some, to show your support to the board as they consider taking a stand for justice.

PSC members have been working hard to bring local businesses including the Riverwest Public House cooperative Bar on board with the campaign to boycott, divest, and sanction apartheid Israel, as well as the academic and cultural boycott of Israel. We have presented a teach-in at the Public House’s night school, presented at a board meeting, and sent the board letters of support from national BDS leaders.

We will meet at All People’s Church (2600 N 2nd st.) directly after this event for our weekly meeting (normally at 7: 30pm).

UNAC: All Out For August 24 & 28

From the United National Antiwar Coalition, https://unacpeace.org/

Join UNAC at the August 24 march in Washington D.C.  As we give our support and honor the historic 1963 march, we will pass out the UNAC statement below and help get emails for our email list.  We will also help bring the message of peace as Martin Luther King did with his historic speech at the Riverside Church in New York City where he strongly came out against the war in Vietnam.

UNAC will have a table at the corner of 17th St NW and Constitution Ave.  Here we will have copies of the UNAC statement and some clip boards so people can get on our list.  Please join us at the table.  Also, email UNAC at UNACpeace@gmail.com to let us know you will be there and can help.

On Friday, August 23, join peace activists in DC at 8 PM at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for a wreath laying, followed by the “Light Brigade” visuals at the Reflecting Pool and a candle light procession to the MLK memorial.
