Wisconsin Public Education Network
WPEN is holding a press event to draw attention to the distance between what people have been asking for at the public hearings on the budget and the proposals on the table today in Joint Finance. Once again, our kids are being held hostage by budget discussions that use them as pawns in political games.
We will stress public demand for restoration of public school funding, including increase to per pupil aid, lifting revenue caps and increasing special education reimbursement rate to a minimum of 60%.
Who: All supporters of public schools and students. A few people who testified at Joint Finance hearings have been invited to speak. Others are asked to stand in support behind the speakers during the press event. WE WANT TO PACK THE ROOM!!! PLEASE ATTEND IF YOU CAN!
When: Meet at 9:45. Press event begins at 10am, Thursday, May 23 (JFC meeting begins at 11 am)
Where: Wisconsin State Capitol, Madison. Room location will be emailed to you when confirmed.
Why: The Joint Finance Committee removed many of the key transformational provisions of the governor’s education budget from discussion on May 9. We are calling on them to meet the immediate needs of our schools and NOT vote to pass a watered-down budget that invests only in widening our gaps!
860,000 kids are counting on us!
