His main project while here is to create a sculpture with murals on it in Stevens Point. But he will be spending a fair amount of time (Sept. 28 through Oct. 5th) in Waukesha and Milwaukee and could probably travel farther if transportation could be arranged.

Johnny Garcia Chamorro
Johnny José Garcia Chamorro, a painter and sculptor, lives in the beautiful old colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua, CA. Johnny received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Granada School of Fine Arts in 1986. Granada has a worldwide reputation of being the Nicaraguan center for artistic development and the community has a high regard for their artists and their work.
Johnny has worked in a wide variety of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture and printing making, but painting remains his favorite means of expression. He recalls his first art interest was drawing, beginning at a very early age. Art has always been a focal point in his life and he has turned this passion into a vocation.
Johnny was sponsored by Partners of the Americas, Inc. in 1992 through their Artist in Residence program, and received a travel grant to Wisconsin. While in Waukesha, WI, he received an invitation from the Children’s Art Museum in Chicago and spent several weeks working in the museum. At that time, he also met with art classes at UWSP and the Stevens Point public schools.
Johnny is married with two children and he and his wife live in Granada, Nicaragua. Through the Cultural Center, he has had the opportunity to display his work at various international venues including Mexico, Canada, Spain, Germany, and France.
