Detroit, June 6, 2020: MOURNING LOST FUTURES: A WAKE FOR OUR SLAIN FAMILY

MOURNING LOST FUTURES: A WAKE FOR OUR SLAIN FAMILY

GATEWAY TO FREEDOM – HART PLAZA
BRING MASKS – WEAR WHITE

4:30 P.M. EST

Join with Detroit’s frontline communities as we mourn the loss of our beloved kinfolk to murderous police violence.

While we mourn, we come together to resist police violence, to envision a world beyond policing and oppression, and to think together about how we can build new communities, and a new society.

We will march in a procession starting at The Gateway to Freedom Memorial on the Riverwalk at Hart Plaza and through Campus Martius to Cass Corridor, stopping for political education teach-ins and ceremonies at long-time organizations in the area (EMEAC, Cass Commons, Michigan Welfare Rights Organization) and then we will end up at the Cass Commons and close out with a teach-in on movement building.

ACCORDING TO TRADITION WE ASK THAT EVERYONE WEARS WHITE; try to bring a jar (if you can), a white umbrella, and something to cover your hair.

For accessibility needs and concerns and if you’re interested in volunteering to pass out water, or to assist with set-up/break-down, please reach out to landwaterppl@gmail.com

Hosts: Frontline Detroit, East Michigan Environmental Action Council, General Baker Institute, Detroit Independent Freedom Schools Movement, Detroit Recordings
