Racine Rally & Juneteenth Celebration, Building UNITY – June 19, 2020

  • Hello Community Members, Leaders and Organizations. We, the Planning Committee for Rally For Racine would like to invite you and your congregation to be a part of the Rally 4 Racine on Juneteenth Day, Friday June 19th.
  • At 4pm in recognition of the pain and oppression that Black people have faced and still continue to face in America there will be two simultaneous rallies taking place. The rally at Gateway Technical College will be a Rally for Black Americans. There will also be a simultaneous Rally taking place at Winslow School (14th & College).
  • These rallies will then JOIN FORCES IN UNITY and march to the John Bryant Center for Justice. Transportation will be provided back to staging locations from the Bryant Center. Waters will be provided however donations are still needed. Masks are required and are being donated, however more donations are still necessary.
  • I am attaching two fliers for your distribution. The second flier is an explanation of why there are two rallies but one march and then one big Rally! Unity is the key and the goal, and if we work together we can build the necessary bridges to get us around the walls we’ve broken down together. I ask for your participation and ask that you please disseminate this to your constituents at your earliest convenience.
  • If there are any questions or information on where to drop off donations please email rally4racine@yahoo.com
      •  In Solidarity,
  •  Rally For Racine Planning Committee

Make a Contribution to the Moratorium Now Coalition, a Fighting People’s Organization

https://moratorium-mi.org/

Friends – Throughout this pandemic the Moratorium Now Coalition has kept working for justice and kept meeting on line every week. Since the mass uprisings against police terror erupted with the lynching of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery (and others) many of our members have been breaking isolation EVERY DAY  to join the Detroit protests. We have raised our banners, printed leaflets, provided our sound system and distributed many printed signs.

We know not everyone can come out into the streets. But you can help us with the costs that are mounting up. Think of this email as me passing the plate at our meeting and make a donation. You can contribute something (no amount too great or small) easily thru Cash App. The code is $MoratoriumNow1. Or if you are old school you can drop a check or envelope with cash in the mail slot at 5920 Second Avenue. Please DO NOT send in the mail – we have had many problems with delivery.
Thank you. – David Sole, Moratorium Now Coalition

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Coast Longshore Division, representing locals at all 29 West Coast ports, will stop work and lay down their tools on Tuesday, June 9 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific for an 8 minute 46 second collective vigil of silence to honor the memory of George Floyd and all those murdered at the hands of the police. “We must continue the mission for the Disenfranchised, the victims of Systemic Racism and Police Terror,” stated Trent Willis, ILWU Local 10 president.

Operations at ports on the East and Gulf coasts also will be shut down (12 noon to 1 p.m.) as longshore labor from the 65,000-member International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), AFL-CIO, honor the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and Walter Scott, among others.

Throughout the United States, workers, organized and unorganized, are joining this historic moment of protest.

“The Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC, AFL-CIO) has a long history of fighting police repression as early as the late 60’s,” explained FLOC President Baldemar Velasquez. “We withstood beatings, arrests, jails from local police departments and county sheriffs. FLOC members tilling the land at nearly 650 farms under union contract will join this act of solidarity.”

Simultaneously, in New York City, the Metro North and building service workers, members of International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 808, will stop work to join labor’s collective vigil.

”It is important that labor become what it is supposed to be — that is, the vanguard organization of the working class,” stated Chris Silvera, Secretary-Treasurer, Teamsters Local 808. “Labor must step to the forefront of the struggle for justice in America.”

With these actions and more on June 9, labor’s voice will be heard throughout the land!
