Black Lives Matter on the 4th of July and Every Day
11 A.M. – 2 P.M. – Downtown Sister Bay, WI
As the 4th of July approaches, I’m sure you know our work is far from over. And while many tourists may be flocking to our county despite the canceled public gatherings, we at Black Lives Matter Door County don’t think our country has earned a celebration, especially one that commemorates a document that specifically omitted independence for all its people. As Marsha P. Johnson said: “as long as my people don’t have their rights across America, there’s no reason for celebration.”
We will be protesting in Sister Bay from 11am-2pm as we do every day, but this protest will inevitably be different. There will be more tourists, there will be more angry tourists, there will be more thumbs down and hate speech and harassment and calling the police on our protest. We are calling all who are able to join us, for there is strength in numbers, and the 4th of July is not a day where we can lose steam.
If you have not yet been to a protest, this is the day to come! Wear a mask, we have signs and water and music and will be practicing social distancing. We look forward to seeing you and your family and friends there in patriotic decent.
