Black & Pink Milwaukee x Diverse & Resilient Virtual Session

Join Black & Pink Milwaukee and Diverse & Resilient for a discussion on anti-violence practices and resources. As part of our session we will be writing birthday cards and pen pal letters to our incarcerated comrades! Fostering connections with incarcerated people can be a harm reduction practice, as it breaks isolation and signals support and care to guards and others in prisons.

If you want to participate in the card writing session you’ll need: envelopes, stamps, paper (plain, construction, etc.), pens/markers. Incarcerated people in Wisconsin cannot receive items with scented markers or glue.

Zoom link will be provided closer to the event date

Justice for Strauss Workers! Justicia para los trabajadores de Strauss! August 7, 2020 Protest in Franklin, WI

August 1, 2020

Voces de la Frontera Essential Workers Rights Network

(Milwaukee, Wisconsin) — Going live on Saturday, August 1st at 11 am on our Facebook live: Justice for Strauss Workers! Justicia para los trabajadores de Strauss!

Happening in just a few hours! At 11 am CST we will be going live on our Facebook page to announce our “Justice for Strauss Workers” action, sponsored by the Voces de la Frontera Essential Workers Rights Network. Tune in to learn how you can help get justice for Strauss workers!

On July 23rd, 2020, Strauss Brands, Inc, a meat processing plant in Franklin, Wisconsin, fired 28 workers because they were organizing for adequate COVID-19 protections. Strauss claims to have fired these workers because of a Social Security No Match letter from the Social Security Administration (SSA), but SSA No Match Letters do not legally indicate anything about a workers’ immigration status and cannot be a basis for retaliation, firing or re-verification of work authorization. Strauss’s HR department is bringing hatred and prejudice into the workplace and all in the midst of an uncontrolled pandemic, and we have had enough.

On Monday we demanded for the immediate firing of HR Director Cheryl Wisman, for the reinstatement of these workers, and for adequate COVID-19 protections for all workers at Strauss. So far our demands have not been met, so it is time to double down. On Friday, August 7th at 11 am, we invite you to come protest outside of Strauss Brands with us in Franklin, about 20 minutes south of Milwaukee. Our goal is to have at least 1,000 people show up. Tune in tomorrow morning at 11 am CST to hear testimonials from some of these Strauss workers about what happened to them and to hear how you can join the fight in getting Justice for Strauss workers. This live event will be bilingual. Adelante, la lucha sigue!

You can read our letter with full demands to Strauss here: https://vdlf.org/re-retaliation-prejudice-wrongful-termination-for-social-security-no-match-letters-for-strauss-workers/
