Saturday, December 12 at 12:30 pm, meeting at the northeast corner of Washington Park by the playground (entrance on 45th and Lisbon).
On December 15th, the Milwaukee Common Council will take a vote on the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) federal grant, a $9.7 million grant to hire 30 more police officers over the next 3 years.
This grant is clearly a step back from steady movements to defund the police within Milwaukee and a slap in the face to a community that has decided we do not need more officers. In the 2021 proposed city budget, the police still take 45% of the total city budget, while health, public works, and neighborhood services remain appallingly underfunded.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation, in coalition with other local organizations such as The Peoples Revolution Milwaukee and Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression, demand this COPS grant be declined, and show the Common Council that the people of Milwaukee need community aid, NOT KILLER POLICE.
We need to defund and abolish the facist police state and allocate those funds to the people. SAY NO TO THE COPS GRANT!
We will be hosting a march on December 12th at 12:30 pm, meeting at the northeast corner of Washington Park by the playground (entrance on 45th and Lisbon). We will commence marching around the Washington neighborhood promptly at 1 pm. The event will feature speakers from various Milwaukee-based organizations who have been leading the fight against police terror.
For the sake of the health of our community please wear a mask.
