Party First Secretary and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez yesterday received His Excellency Vyacheslav Volodin, chairman of the of the Russian Federation Federal Assembly’s State Duma, who is visiting Cuba.
During the meeting, Díaz-Canel highlighted the excellent state of relations between the two nations, while reiterating Cuba’s willingness to consolidate existing high level political dialogue and exchanges in areas of common interest, including the parliamentary arena. He expressed gratitude for the Duma resolution denouncing the U.S. blockade, which has been approved annually for many years by the Russian legislature, as well as the humanitarian aid received from the Federation to support our efforts to control the pandemic.
The Cuban President expressed solidarity with the Russian Federation also facing escalating U.S. and the expansion of NATO toward its borders.
For his part, Vyacheslav Volodin reconfirmed the State Duma’s support of stronger bilateral ties, emphasized his condemnation of U.S. hostility toward our country and reiterated the will to continue strengthening exchanges at all levels.
The distinguished visitor was accompanied by Anna Kuznekova, chargé d’affaires of the Russian Embassy in Cuba; Ivan I. Melnikov, First Deputy Speaker of the State Duma; Andrei V. Kartapalov, Chair of the State Duma Defense Committee; Olga V. Timofeeva, Chair of the State Duma Committee on Development of Civil Society, Affairs of Social and Religious Associations, and Aleksandr V. Shetinin, Director of the Latin American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also participating on the Cuban side were Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of the National Assembly of People’s Power; Brigadier General Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez, president of the Cuba-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group; Yolanda Ferrer Gómez, president of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power, and Emilio Lozada García, general director of Bilateral Affairs at the Foreign Ministry.
