Sunday May 29, 2022, the first round of the Colombian presidential race is scheduled. There are high chances for Colombia to have its first center-left President in history and many doubt Colombia’s oligarchy will allow it.
In this Dialogue we will evaluate the pre and post election environment, results, congress composition and threats for Colombia and the region.
We are also planning to evaluate under the context of the electoral results the prospects for the pacification of a country in civil war since 1948 when leftist presidential candidate Jorge Eliecer Gaitan was assassinated, how to deal with social exclusion, paramilitarism, drug cartel violence, mass assassination of social leaders, revival of the peace agreements and repolitization of a country plagued with apathy, exhaustion and oligarchical control of mass media.
We will endup our debate analyzing the implications of Colombia becoming a destabilization actor playing at the interests of United States and NATO, with 7 US military bases, becoming a NATO preferential partner for the US, participating with mercenaries in political assassination in Haiti and preparing/ launching mercenary incursions against Venezuela.
