When Sara Nelson speaks, she does so for 50,000 flight attendants. She is the international president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), representing workers who have been at the very forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic. The union built a reputation for standing up to Trump, refusing to work on flights facilitating immigrant family separation, and threatening a general strike in response to the 2019 federal government shutdown. Now, in an era of successful strikes by teachers and autoworkers, Nelson is looking to build on those victories to grow a stronger labor movement in America.
