August 25, 2022: (Online) Free Mumia, Mutulu Shakur, and all Imprisoned Movement Elders

Register for the Zoom meeting here:

This every-other-Thursday meeting is an organizing tool to free our movement elders – all of whom were targeted, as young activists for their participation in human rights struggles and for being outspoken against racism and imperialism.

The U.S. has kept them in prison for many years, subjecting them to medical neglect and elder abuse through the prison system.

Dr. Mutulu Shakur is deathly ill with bone marrow cancer, exacerbated by prison conditions, medical neglect, and elder abuse.

Please sign this petition to free Mutulu through federal Compassionate Release. Mutulu needs to go home (it’s been 36 years) and be with loved ones for his last days.…/support-parole-and…

We are organizing local events and tabling everywhere we can – to push for Mutulu’s release. Please help.

We are also in discussion with Mutulu’s fellow acupuncture healers to bring the teachings to Detroit- so we can continue Mutulu’s work – healing, loving, and detoxifying our communities from trauma and drugs.

Political Prisoner and writer/journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal has a major court date on Oct 19, 2022 in Pennsylvania. There will be both a Detroit presence in the courtroom and a solidarity action at home- perhaps you will help organize or be part of those contingents!

Please join this Thursday’s Zoom meeting to strengthen support in Detroit to FREE Mutulu Shakur, Mumia Abu-Jamal, and our other elders.

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND: This is our fourth meeting since the July 3, 2022 Free Mumia March and Rally in Detroit. Responding to the strategic call to action from Love Not Phear, activists in cities around the world held July 3rd events to demand Mumia’s freedom after 40 YEARS of injustice. In Detroit, many groups endorsed and/or participated in the action, including: Moratorium Now Coalition, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, General Baker Institute, People’s Sound, Community Movement Builders (Detroit), Detroit Black Panther Historical Project, 313 Care Collective, Detroit & MI National Lawyers Guild, and Detroit Anarchist Black Cross.

Since the first follow-up meeting, we have been doing numerous events to Free Mutulu Shakur!

Event by Malcolm X Grassroots Movement-Detroit, Detroit Anarchist Black Cross and Moratorium NOW! Coalition
