This every-other-Thursday meeting is an organizing tool to free our movement elders – all of whom were targeted, as young activists for their participation in human rights struggles and for being outspoken against racism and imperialism.
The U.S. has kept them in prison for many years, subjecting them to medical neglect and elder abuse through the prison system.
DR. MUTULU SHAKUR is deathly ill with bone marrow cancer, exacerbated by prison conditions, medical neglect, and elder abuse.
Please sign this petition to free Mutulu through federal Compassionate Release. Mutulu needs to go home (it’s been 36 years) and be with loved ones for his last days. https://campaigns.organizefor.org/…/support-parole-and…
We are organizing local events and tabling everywhere we can – to push for Mutulu’s release. Please help.
We are also in discussion with Mutulu’s fellow acupuncture healers to bring the teachings to Detroit- so we can continue Mutulu’s work – healing, loving, and detoxifying our communities from trauma and drugs.
MUMIA ABU-JAMAL, political prisoner and writer/journalist, has a major court date on Mon, Oct 19, 2022 in Philadelphia. We need to start concretely organizing for a Detroit presence in the courtroom and a solidarity action here in Detroit for Oct 19th.
A vast collection of Mumia’s records, writings, and artwork is now at Brown University to anchor a new strategic collecting focus at the University’s Library: Voices of Mass Incarceration. The New York Times published an article about it. (The announcement of this historic and revealing collection going to Brown has really pissed off the Fraternal Order of Police.) Hopefully, this is big step toward Mumia’s freedom, and an important move to end the U.S. carceral system.

Brown’s Press Release

LEONARD PELTIER, American Indian Movement (AIM) freedom fighter and artist, and political prisoner since the late 1970’s, needs to be freed! Starting on August 31, 2022, people began a 15-week national walk demanding his release. He, like Mutulu, is a federal prisoner.
The “Walk to Justice: Free Leonard Peltier” will travel from Minneapolis through Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, ending in Washington, D.C. on Nov 14, 2022.
These are a few of our incarcerated, tortured, movement elders. We invite you, in the Detroit area, to help work for their release.
