UMD grad student union launches petition for rights and wages

Fearless Student Employees, the union for grad students at the University of Maryland, College Park, has launched a petition for collective bargaining rights and living wages for all Maryland higher-ed workers. “Collective bargaining is a fundamental right of all workers, but faculty and students in Maryland state institutions of higher education are denied this right under current law,” notes the petition, adding that “Many higher education workers are denied living wages.” FSE is drafting this year’s collective bargaining bill with the support of AFT and the local chapter of AAUP and says the petition will help show legislators that there’s popular support for the bill.
