Dear Ambassador,

Re: Freedom for Mumia Abu-Jamal

We are the representatives of Hoshino Defense Committee(HDC), Osaka Defense Committee(ODC), National Railway Motive Power Union of Chiba (Doro-Chiba). HDC has been fighting for state compensation for Fumiaki Hoshino’s death four years ago by medical failure during and after his liver surgery. Hoshino had fought against the ratification of the Okinawa Reversion Agreement in 1971 and indefinitely imprisoned on framed up charge of killing a riot police officer. ODC has been fighting for freedom of Masaaki Osaka, indicted for the framed charge of the same incident. Doro-Chiba has been fighting against division and privatization of the Japan National Railways and playing the central role in Japanese anti-war movement and building international solidarity.

Representatives of HDC visited the United States and held a joint meeting with the movement there for Mumia Abu-Jamal’s Freedom. Since then we forged strong solidarity together. In 2016, when Mumia suffered from hepatitis C, we protested against the Tokyo Office of the Gilead Sciences. Inc., which charged outrageous bill for HCV pills.

Now, it is time to free Mumia. Judge Lucretia Clemons of the Philadelphia Common Pleas Court ordered the Philadelphia District Attorney to open all of their files to Mumia’s defense team and stated she would rule in 60-90 days on Mumia’s request for a new trial. and the workers fighting together with them. A note from a key witness asking the DA for money after the trial was recently was discovered from the six boxes found in 2018. Today is the day 60. We are here to make this historic opportunity a reality, in solidarity with all worldwide actions for Mumia today.

We demand as follows,
•   Free Mumia Abu-Jamal who suffers from deteriorated health conditions
caused by 41 years of incarceration!
•   Free Mumia NOW! He is innocent. Fair retrial could be held
thereafter.
•   Abolish racial discrimination in jury selection! Do not exclude
black and brown persons!
