Free admission, donations welcome.
Noche de Cine! Screening of MAESTRA, Catherine Murphy’s 2012 documentary that explores the experience of nine women who, as young girls, taught on the Cuban Literacy Campaign of 1961. Through current day interviews, and archival film footage, this 33-minute film looks at this movement and how it changed their lives as women.

Celebrate women’s history month by learning about how the Cuban Revolution eradicated illiteracy, while empowering young women and rural communities! Come be inspired by the 250,000 volunteers who taught 700,000 people to read and write in one year — 100,000 of the teachers were less than 18 years old and more than half were women.
