Workers at Solid State Books yesterday announced plans to unionize with UFCW Local 400. “We are unionizing because we love our work, our customers, and the broader H street community,” said the Solid State Union workers organizing committee. “With a collective voice, we know we can make Solid State Books the best workplace it can be.” While the workers have requested voluntary recognition — every eligible worker at the store has signed union authorization cards — the group also filed for a union election last Friday, in case management fails to voluntarily recognize the union. The union would cover seven employees at the store located at 600 H Street NE. ““We are all in this together,” said the workers.
