FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

STUDENT SIT-IN AT SETON HALL ENTERS SECOND DAY, POP CALLS FOR SUPPORT

The Seton Hall University student sit-in for African American studies has entered its second day. Representative of the press and media that want to contact students in the sit-in can call Tawanna Brown at 862 202-4713. She is one of the student leaders participating in the sit-in.

“The People’s Organization For Progress (POP) wholeheartedly supports the Protect AFAM Movement organized by the students at Seton Hall University. POP supports their protest and demands,” Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress stated.

“We urge the university president to meet with the students and implement their demands immediately. Further, we ask that the university not take any punitive action against any of the students participating in the protest and the sit-in,” Hamm said.

“Today, the teaching of African American history is under attack. These students are taking a righteous stand in support of African American studies. They should be commended not punished,” he said.

“The students demands are just. What they are asking for are the necessary staff, resources, and courses for African American studies. And they want the elevation of the program to department level,” he said.

“These students should not stand alone. Their fight is our fight. I am asking all grassroots, community, academic, civil and human rights organizations to show support for their struggle,” Hamm said.

He said everyone should call the university president, ask him accept the student demands, and take no action against protestors.

He also urged people contact the students at @protectafamshu
