Manitowoc, WI Superintendent of Public Schools Jim Feil Likes to Starve Children; the People Fight Back! – Sign Petition to Demand District Accept Federal Funds for Free Breakfast and Lunch!

SIGN PETITION: https://tinyurl.com/2ac8pskt

Jim Feil, MPSD superintendent unilaterally decided to turn down federal funding that would allow ALL MPSD students to have access to free breakfast and lunches in schools. This federal program is fully paid for by taxpayers; funds have already been collected and allocated so this would be NO ADDITIONAL COST TO MANITOWOC TAXPAYERS . 47% of students in our community qualify for free or reduced meals. Others are very close and struggling. Turning down this program results in hungry kids, shaming kids, lower test scores, and continuing struggle for food insecure families. The money we as taxpayers have already contributed will now benefit some other community while ours suffers. Feil then lied on several media platforms stating that this will save us money (false), and that we can use saved money to pay teachers (false). He did not consult the board or community prior to this decision. For these reasons he has shown he is not acting in the best interests of our children or community.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

On October 10, 2023 concerned parents, workers and other community members will gather at 5:45 p.m. outside the board room entrance at the MPSD District Office, 2902 Lindbergh Drive in Manitowoc. While there was no school board meeting scheduled on the MPSD website as of Oct. 6, the board typically meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m.

A petition calling for Feil’s resignation was started on Change.org Oct. 5, 2023 by Rebecca Wilinski.

“Turning down this program (CEP) results in hungry kids, shaming kids, lower test scores, and continuing the struggle for food-insecure families. The money we, as taxpayers, have already contributed will now benefit some other community while ours suffers,” she wrote in the petition’s description.

A community forum will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 18, 2023 at Manitowoc City Hall. The forum will explore the school district’s past in providing meals and discuss the current situation and an action plan with speakers Ron Kossik, Linda Gratz and Lisa Johnston.
