FREEDOM RIDE: FROM NEWARK, NJ TO JENA, LA June 8-13, 2025

We are living in pivotal times in the fight for justice, dignity and democratic rights. IFCO has been hard at work to contribute to the advancement of our people’s struggles – and we need you to be part of it.
The Trump administration’s second term has unleashed brutal assaults on immigrants, workers, and vital social programs – from slashing healthcare access to expanding detention and deportations. In response to these attacks, IFCO/ Pastors for Peace has worked with The Riverside Church, Interfaith NY and The People’s Forum in organizing The Freedom Ride in Defense of Democratic Rights from Sunday, June 8th through Friday, June 13th.

The Freedom Ride will journey from Delaney Hall Detention Facility, a hallmark of oppression in  Newark, NJ to Jena, LA where Mahmoud Khalil is being detained. We will be uniting immigrant rights organizers, faith leaders, anti war activists, student organizers and workers in the fight against the Trump administration’s escalating attacks on our civil rights. Our journey will be one of uplifting our struggles, in defence of our communities, demanding systemic change and reclaiming the legacy of liberation struggles that have advanced the quality of life of working people in the U.S.

After our journey with The Freedom Ride in Defense of Democratic Rights, the IFCO team will be co-convening the second iteration of  The People’s Agenda  with a coalition of diverse organizations in New Jersey. We will bring together organizations engaged in defense of immigrant communities, civil rights for historically marginalized communities, labor and community members at large to exchange, discuss and strategize together.

In addition to our work towards advancing the struggles of communities in the U.S., we continue to uphold our commitment and solidarity with the Cuban people. We understand that as the attacks on Cuba intensify, we have a responsibility to grow the solidarity movement.

During the month of July, IFCO will be traveling to Cuba to join the celebration of eleven U.S. graduating students from The Latin America School of Medicine (ELAM) and distribute necessary medical aid to medical offices and communities in Cuba. We are actively collecting monetary donations to purchase necessary medicine.

As you can see, we have plenty of exciting work and organizing so much more. But we can only advance this work with you – never without you.
In loving solidarity,
cClaudia De la Cruz Executive Director, IFCO
