AFSCME Wisconsin State Employees Union (WSEU) – Local 1
AFSCME Local 1: Resolution in Support of the Minnesota Fifteen
Whereas on June 16, 2026, fifteen Minnesotans, including several union members, were arrested in direct retaliation for their courageous support of their neighbors during Operation Metro Surge,
Whereas this courageous support was rooted in providing food for neighbors, helping students, supporting families in crisis, ensuring neighbors were safe and had what they needed to weather the occupation of the city by federal agents, and monitoring federal agents operating in the area,
Whereas Operation Metro Surge was an abuse of power that terrorized immigrants and communities of color and resulted in the murder of at least two people (Renee Good and Alex Pretti), many injuries, the detention of over 3,500 people, and an estimated $700 million in negative economic impact to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area,
Whereas federal prosecutors under the Trump Department of Justice have targeted civilians repeatedly with false narratives, using incomplete stories or misleading information, to chill free speech and protest rights and intimidate citizens from standing in solidarity with one another,
Whereas the federal government has refused to charge the federal officers who murdered Renee Good and Alex Pretti for their crimes,
Therefore be it resolved that our union reaffirms all workers and their families have the right to support and advocate for their neighbors and communities through direct action, mutual aid, protest, and petitioning the government for redress;
Be it resolved that our union demands that the right to due process be respected for all who are present in the United States and in Minnesota, be they citizens or immigrants;
Be it resolved that our union calls for a complete and thorough legal investigation of this case based on credible evidence and established facts, and not political pressure or speculation;
Be it resolved that our union will mobilize members to call on their elected leaders to demand fair trials for these Minnesotans based on the above principles of due process, credible evidence and established facts, and no political pressure or speculation;
And be it resolved that our union will provide members with information on the details of the court proceedings and events in solidarity with the community members charged.
