A world wide hour of action to free Gaza Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya from Israeli imprisonment and torture has been called for this Wednesday, July 15.
In Madison, please join us for a banner drop on the Campus Drive Overpass from noon – 1 pm on Wednesday. Banners and some flags provided; please bring more flags if you can.
As increasingly dire reports emerge around the globe about the life-threatening state of Dr. Abu Safiya’s health due to Israeli torture and beatings (see, for example, this amazing article in conservative British newspaper The Telegraph), Doctors Against Genocide issued the following call for the hour of action:
In full coordination with our colleagues in Gaza and in response to the official call of the Palestine Physicians Syndicate – Southern Governorates, Doctors Against Genocide (DAG) invites healthcare workers, institutions, and people of conscience around the world to join a coordinated rolling Global Hour of Action.
While healthcare workers in Gaza will hold their solidarity action from 10:00-11:00 AM Palestine time under extraordinary local circumstances, we ask participants worldwide to take action from 12:00-1:00 PM in their own local time zone, choosing the action that is most feasible, impactful, and appropriate for their community.
We call for the immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, all detained Palestinian healthcare workers, and all Palestinian hostages; an immediate end to torture, abuse, enforced disappearance, and arbitrary detention; immediate access to independent medical care, legal counsel, and family visits; due process and fair legal proceedings; and urgent international action to save Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya’s life before it is too late.
This global action stands in solidarity with our colleagues in Gaza and affirms a simple principle: No healthcare worker should be imprisoned, tortured, or killed for fulfilling their duty to care for patients.

(3) Use Amnesty International’s tool to send a letter to Israeli Military Advocate General Itai Ofi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
