None of the four officers wore body cameras, and independent monitor Aeiramique Glass said the department was “obstructing what the community and the public” want by withholding the shooting officer’s identity, while Common Council President Sabrina Madison asked, “why isn’t he walking away in cuffs.” Given this is the third such killing in the same neighborhood since 2012 and officers still lack body cameras, the department’s pattern of secrecy and escalation looks less like an isolated tragedy than a systemic failure to be held accountable.
