Big news out of Maryland: baristas at the Wilde Lake Starbucks in Columbia just voted to unionize, 19 to 3. Shift supervisor Jassira Castillo said she got involved because she loves her job and her coworkers, but knew they couldn’t fix the problems on their own. Now they have a union. That’s the whole thing about organizing: you don’t have to settle for hoping management gets it right. You can build the power to demand it.
