Last week, we officially called for a boycott. After the biggest strike in Starbucks history, our union of over 12,000 baristas got the company back to the table, and they’ve done nothing but drag their feet since. Low pay, understaffing, weak protections.
At a time when working-class people across the country are struggling in a challenging economy, it is no longer possible to be both a Starbucks customer and in support of workers.
Read the full statement on why a boycott from all customers, allies, and organizations is necessary to fight back against corporate greed.
The boycott is already picking up serious momentum. This Labor Day weekend, working people everywhere are saying enough.
The Chicago Teachers Union just voted unanimously to boycott Starbucks.
And the Connecticut AFL-CIO just endorsed the boycott too. When working people stand together, we raise all of us up. Teachers and labor federations backing baristas isn’t a coincidence. It’s what solidarity looks like.
Meanwhile, this fight isn’t happening only at Starbucks. Half of fast food workers in LA, including Starbucks baristas, reported working “clopening” shifts last month: closing one night, opening again hours later. LA has some of the strongest labor laws in the country, but workers can’t enforce rights they don’t have, and bosses sure won’t teach them.Workers in LA have taken the first step toward passing the #FastFoodFairWork Ordinance, which guarantees Know Your Rights training for every fast food worker. Supporting the boycott means supporting every one of us fighting for basic protections. This Labor Day, and beyond, skip Starbucks. Back the baristas instead. ![]() Heading to a Labor Day action this weekend? Print our “Boycott Starbucks at Standalone Stores” flyer and hand it out.
