PHONE ZAP AND COURT SUPPORT FOR THE GRAND RAPIDS 5!
On 9/12, GRPD actively coordinated with ICE agents and GEO Group employees so that the GEO Group could transport immigrants abducted off the streets of Grand Rapids. They met community resistance in the form of an “Abolish ICE” protest in coalition with immigrant activists. The GRPD threatened “chemical munitions” in the public alleyway behind the 517 Ottawa ICE offices. GRPD officers then violently arrested five people.
Then on 9/20, Mario David Coronado Juárez’s life was taken by ICE violence.

Suggested script: “I’m calling to demand that you drop all charges against my five neighbors who were violently arrested by GRPD at 517 Ottawa on September 12th. They were trying to stop tragedies like Mario’s death from happening. ICE, GEO Group, and GRPD should be on trial–not the people trying to end the violent ICE abductions that are tearing our community apart. I demand you drop the charges, I demand justice for Mario, and I support the Privacy, Safety and Dignity for All ordinance.”
COURT SUPPORT
In case the charges don’t get dropped now, we will support the GR 5 at arraignments. Hearings will be by zoom, but we will show our support in person. Wear black in solidarity and mourning. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for details:
