Behind the walls of the Florence McClure Women’s Correctional Facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada, a pattern of systemic abuse, retaliation, and medical neglect is being exposed by the very women forced to endure it.
They share their stories at great personal risk.
Dawnyell describes a facility run like a “brothel,” where she faced sexual misconduct from officers and was then subjected to years of retaliatory punishment in solitary confinement for reporting it. She details being forced to clean a cell contaminated with feces without sanitary products, developing sepsis, and suffering a heat stroke in a 102-degree cell—only to be written up for “sexual harassment” by male officers instead of receiving the medical care she needed.
Shirron, who suffers from a brain tumor, alleges she was punished for being unable to provide a urine sample, a direct result of her documented medical condition. She speaks of a “malicious prosecution” launched against her inside the prison after she accused the Nevada judicial system of corruption, and of the facility being used as a “weapon” to steal her legal mail.
Marsha, a 68-year-old senior in a wheelchair, was brutally attacked and choked by another inmate. Instead of seeing her attacker held accountable, Marsha was sent to the hole while the other woman was released.
These are not isolated incidents; they are symptoms of a corrupt and broken system where the grievance process is ignored, medical needs are weaponized, and speaking out leads to punishment, not justice.
