Starbucks is Losing Cities

Huge shout out to Atlanta City Council this week for standing with workers! 🍑 Baristas walked into City Hall, told council exactly what’s been happening in their stores, and council voted 11-3 to pass a resolution to boycott Starbucks until the company settles a contract. Watch the moment here. 💚

Cities are catching on to how Starbucks treats its workers, and Atlanta won’t be the last. 🚫☕ Grab a (non-Starbucks) mug, there’s a lot brewing this week.

☕ Here’s this week’s brew:

🦞 Boston is done with Starbucks

The Boston Globe reports Starbucks just closed two more downtown Boston stores, on top of nearly 20 it shut down across Greater Boston last year. The last one standing downtown? Slammed. Baristas are buried in 40+ mobile orders, and customers are waiting over half an hour for a single drink. So much for “bringing the soul back.”

One Watertown resident told the Globe she started boycotting after labor disputes at stores near her home and job. Her bottom line: “I won’t go back to Starbucks until the workers have a contract.” 🙌

👀 ICYMI: Brian Niccol didn’t get the welcome he expected at UT Austin

Niccol tried to give a speech at UT Austin earlier this week. Workers and students had a few things to say first. 📣🤘Meanwhile, through heat AND rain, union baristas and allies picketed outside, marched to Rowling Hall, and chanted “No Contract, No Coffee!” loud enough that it disrupted his event. Shocking absolutely no one, Brian ducked his own baristas without a conversation. 🙄

✈️ Starbucks is the poster child for corporate greed

While Niccol commutes to work by private jet and rakes in one of the country’s biggest CEO-to-worker pay gaps, baristas are stuck dealing with chronic understaffing. People everywhere are fed up.

Every skipped cup adds pressure. 🚫☕ Boycott Starbucks until baristas get a fair contract. Stay loud, stay in solidarity, and thanks for being here with us!

In solidarity,

Starbucks Workers United
