CAMPAIGN TO FREE EFREN PAREDES JR. ENTERS ITS FINAL WEEKS

CAMPAIGN TO FREE EFREN PAREDES JR. ENTERS ITS FINAL WEEKS

As we enter the final weeks of Efrén Paredes Jr.’s campaign for commutation of sentence, we are calling on everyone who supports his efforts to share the new Free Efrén flyer and send Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer an email expressing support for Efrén via one of the platforms available below.

The next 30 days is a critical time for Efrén’s life and future. During that time, Governor Whitmer’s office will review his commutation of sentence request and the Parole Board’s recommendation. The Governor can issue a final decision any day between now and December 31, 2026. With only weeks remaining in her term in office, we cannot underscore the gravity of this moment enough.

We urge you to join the chorus of family members, friends, supporters, allies, civil rights and human rights organizations, faith-based groups, and juvenile justice advocates across the nation who support Efrén’s efforts. Together, we stand in strong opposition to condemning individuals to die in prison for crimes they were charged with at age 15. By supporting this campaign, you can help champion this critical cause and promote a more equitable and humane criminal legal system.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL USA DIGITAL CAMPAIGN

Michigan residents can also support Efrén’s efforts to commute his sentence by signing the Amnesty International USA digital action tool to send an email to Governor Whitmer urging her to commute his sentence and encourage others to do the same. The link is available here: https://amnesty.quorum.us/campaign/158629/.

EMAIL GOVERNOR WHITMER FROM WHEREVER YOU ARE LOCATED

Everyone — whether in Michigan, across the country, or around the world — can send a message of support via Governor Whitmer’s official contact portal which is available at: https://bit.ly/efrenmigov. The link is case-sensitive and must be entered in all lowercase letters if typed in manually.

When you access the Governor’s contact page, under the “Description of Issue” menu select “Share your opinion.” Next, write your personal message or you can use a sample letter available at the following link as a model to help you: https://bit.ly/efren-gov-outreach. Please use this option even if you have previously sent the Governor a support message through a different communication channel.

By joining together, we can become a force multiplier to maximize our efforts to help bring Efrén home after nearly four decades of incarceration — 70% of his lifetime — and give him the opportunity to experience freedom for the first time as an adult at the age of 53.

Please share this message across every network you touch (social media, email listservs, community chats, and text networks) and encourage others to do the same.

Thank you for your time and continued support.

In Solidarity,
