Cooperation between China and Cuba is completely legitimate and transparent, said the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Guo Jiakun, at a press conference this Friday.
The spokesperson expressed Beijing’s firm opposition to unlawful unilateral sanctions, which lack foundation in international law and authorization from the United Nations Security Council.
Likewise, he rejected the attempts of the United States (US) to disrupt and sabotage cooperation between both countries and reiterated China’s support for Cuba in the defense of its national sovereignty and against external interference.
Furthermore, Guo assured that his country will take all necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
This Thursday, as part of its policy of suffocation towards the Greater Antilles, the US State Department announced new measures against ten people and entities. These included Cuban state companies dedicated to the import and export of electronic products and technical and technological services, as well as two Chinese companies: China National Electronic Import and Export Company (CEIEC) and Beijing H&C Technologies.
Additionally, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Department of the Treasury issued a resolution that authorizes the imposition of sanctions on foreigners who operate or have operated in the manufacturing, technology, electronics and maritime sectors of the Cuban economy.
The new escalation confirms the intensification of the commercial, financial and energy blockade imposed on the Island by the U.S. Government, as well as its extraterritorial nature.
In this regard, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Minister of Foreign Affairs, denounced in his account on the social network
“They will continue to fail in the attempt to submit us to their designs and clash with our effective defense of independence and sovereignty,” stated the Cuban Foreign Minister.
