About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

The Fight against Racism & Fascism is NOT a Crime! Support the Tinley Park Five! Build Solidarity! Pack the Courtroom, June 12!

http://tinleyparkfive.wordpress.com/

The Tinley Park Five have a court appearance 9am June 12 at the Bridgeview Courthouse (10220 South 76th Avenue Bridgeview , IL 60455). The white supremacist community is threatening later violence against anyone in attendance as can be seen in this thread from Stormfront. The International Action Center has posted a short article about the court date located here. The Tinley Park Five and their support network hope to gather a large group of people to attend, in order to prevent their friends and family from being targeted by violent fascists.

Solidarity Statement from Leslie Feinberg, Free CeCe McDonald!

The power of the people:
felony charge dismissed
before court hearing!

JUNE 8 update on charges resulting from
solidarity action for CeCe McDonald:

The felony charge I faced was dismissed before court hearing this a.m. I may be recharged within weeks–or within the next three years–on misdemeanor/gross misdemeanor charges.

If a month passes and I have not been recharged, Minnie Bruce and I will plan a trip here to South Minneapolis in order to take part in fundraising for CeCe and to offer our thanks to the on-going work of the activist communities here.

For media interviews, and other information about CeCe McDonald’s struggle, please contact her defense committee–not me. As I wrote in the media statement after my release from the county jail:

“This arrest is not about me. It’s about keeping the focus on CeCe McDonald’s struggle!”

I’m going home to continue organizing to help CeCe McDonald free herself. Minnie Bruce and I will be setting up a Central New York support committee chapter, and will bring that information to the Central New York Pride rally next weekend in Syracuse, N.Y., and we will march with the contingent forming in solidarity with CeCe.

If/when the state summons me back to Minnesota on new charges, I would demand a jury trial and use every court appearance to help keep the focus on the struggle for CeCe’s freedom.

Over the summer, I plan to write a new introduction to the 20th-anniversary author’s edition of Stone Butch Blues, which I drafted while inside the same jail that CeCe was being held in before transfer upstate.

I send my personal thanks and respect to CeCe McDonald, her loved ones and her hard-working support committee for helping me to be a part of this battle she is leading; to the Committee to Stop FBI Repression (stopfbi.net) for putting up $5,000 for my bail/ransom; to Jess Sundin, Steph Taylor and Tracy Lorraine for taking me into their home–activists among those who were issued a subpoena during FBI raids here on Sept. 24, 2010; to Workers World Party for its support; to Minnie Bruce Pratt, to the activist communities here in Minneapolis; to Krista Kennedy and Michael DeSalvo, and to all those who sent support.

The prosecution wants the struggle to free CeCe to be over. But it’s far from over!

FREE CECE!

Palermo’s Pizza Plant Workers Strike for Union Recognition, Safe Working Conditions

Workers Call on Palermo’s to Stand Down from Threat to Terminate Employees Today

MILWAUKEE, Wis. —

Over 150 plant employees of Palermo’s Pizza, who in protest of union-busting tactics walked off the job one week ago, are calling on the frozen pizza manufacturer to back away from its threat to terminate employees.

Workers state that threats of termination and immigration audits began almost immediately after workers attempted to form a union in order to address safety concerns.

Palermo’s Pizza employees operate heavy machinery in the course of their work, but due to insufficient training and management’s demand for faster production, workers have suffered injuries on the job.

According an injured Palermo’s worker on strike:

“In my three years at Palermo’s, I’ve seen workers operate heavy, dangerous machinery with little or no training. Some machines lack sufficient safety protections. One day, my sleeve got caught in the machine, sliced open my pinky and I almost lost two other fingers.  When accidents happen, Palermo’s always blames the worker.  Through a union, we can stop unnecessary injuries.”

Palermo’s health and safety record is a major problem. Palermo’s Pizza has paid $7,000 in fines to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for unsafe working conditions.  In the past four years, Palermo’s has been responsible for three separate incidents of worker amputation.  In two of these incidents OSHA fined Palermo Villa for their role in maintaining dangerous work environments.  These are significant penalties and indicative of an extremely unsafe working environment.

The Palermo’s Workers Union is demanding that Palermo Villa recognizes the Palermo’s Workers Union, re-instate the workers who were fired or replaced for participating in the strike, and negotiate a fair labor contract.

Already a national boycott of Palermo’s Pizza is underway and gaining traction among consumers, small business owners, and working people.  Palermo’s Workers Union is also asking the public to support their campaign by helping to contribute to a strike fund.  In less than a day hundreds of supporters from across the nation have also signed an online petition to support the workers.  Both the petition and strike fund information are available at: http://vdlf.org/.

“No worker should be fired for having the courage to form a union in order to address troubling safety concerns,” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, executive director of Voces de la Frontera.  “These workers deserve to have a voice and a safe place to work.  It’s time for Palermo’s to stop this worker intimidation.”

Detroit: Rally to Keep Jennifer Britt and Her Family in Their Home, Call Flagstar Bank

Saturday, June 9, 4 p.m.

at Jennifer’s home, 15701 Warwick at Midland

(first block south of Grand River)

Call Flagstar Bank– see new info below

Since her husband died in 2006,  Jennifer Britt has struggled to save her home in Detroit’s Rosedale Park, where she lives with her son, daughter, mother and uncle.

With money from her husband’s life insurance policy, she paid Flagstar Bank $26,000 to avoid default. When Flagstar raised the monthly mortgage payment from $1,050 to $1,550, she continued paying. After she lost her job in 2008, Flagstar raised the monthly payment to $1,950 and Jennifer continued paying until she had no savings left. The bank foreclosed on her in 2010.

Jennifer has paid more than $40,000 to Flagstar over the years, only to face higher and higher monthly payments. Now that Flagstar has bled her family dry, it’s poised to kick them out of their home.

Jennifer now has a job and could make reasonable mortgage payments if Flagstar and Fannie Mae agreed to work with her. Housing values have plummeted in Detroit during the foreclosure crisis, and state and federal programs call for mortgage modifications to keep people in their homes. There is no good reason why Jennifer and her family should be evicted, leaving another vacant house in Detroit.

Call Flagstar Bank,
248-312-2000

Tell Joseph Campanelli, CEO, to help Jennifer Britt and her family keep their home. The bank held the mortgage from 1999 thru the sheriff’s foreclosure auction. “Nationstar Mortgage” or some other related entity may have briefly serviced the loan before Fannie Mae compensated the bank with taxpayer money. Flagstar cannot hide its responsibility: it can take back the mortgage from Fannie Mae and modify the loan that it initiated, serviced, and foreclosed on. Other banks have been persuaded to do the same after public protest. We will launch our public campaign this Saturday.

Contact us at: DetroitEvictionDefense@gmail.com
Come to our meetings:
Thursdays at 6 p.m., 5900 Michigan Avenue in Detroit
