About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

Appleton, December 6, 2019: Climate Strike

Youth Climate Activists – Fox ValleyGlobal Climate Strike

Our house is on fire, it’s time that we act like it. This December millions will walk out of school and work to demand Climate Justice.

We in Wisconsin are demanding Governor Evers and every local government declare a Climate Emergency, and as a state commit to 100% renewable energy by 2030. We can accomplish these goals, but only with a critical mass of people.

The next major Global Climate Strikes are November 29th and December 6th. The statewide network, Youth Climate Action Team and ourselves will be striking on December 6th. This is so we can hold other actions on November 29th, Black Friday.

The Strike will be held from 12 pm-2 pm at Houdini Plaza in Appleton. We will have signs and warm food, please just bring yourself and a friend. Everyone is welcome, everyone is needed!

LIVE FROM BOLIVIA: LATEST NEWS & ACTIONS FROM CODEPINK

https://bit.ly/2QMZlnz

For the past week, Medea Benjamin has been in Bolivia at the request of local activists, who are panicked about the situation in their country, afraid that things are spiraling out of control. They are engaging in peaceful protests to reverse the coup that happened November 10th, but the protests have been met with tear gas and even live ammunition. Unfortunately, mainstream media and even some progressive outlets are refusing to recognize that what happened a week ago was a coup and are not covering the coup regime’s racism and violence. This is why it’s important for us to bring you news live from Bolivia. Scroll down to learn more and don’t forget to sign our latest petition on Bolivia.

Milwaukee, December 19, 2019: CLOSEmsdf Picket

CLOSEmsdf December Picket

Why do we picket?
1. To educate people on the inhumane conditions at MSDF.
2. To memorialize the 18 people who have died in MSDF since it opened.
3. To let WI taxpayers know that each day someone spends in MSDF for a crimeless rule violation costs us $100.84 vs $40 to treat that person in the community where their job, housing & support systems stay secure.
4. To hold Governor Tony Evers to his campaign promises. He told the Journal Sentinel he thinks MSDF should close “as soon as possible”. It is possible right now, and he can do it himself, with a few just and necessary policy changes.

*****************************************************
Please join us during the lunch hour on Thurs Dec 19 at the west entrance of the county courthouse. If enough people turn out, we may expand the picket to the state office building on 6th and Wells, where the DOC has community supervision offices.

Parking is metered or nearby public lots. If you don’t mind walking a couple blocks, its often easier to find free parking on the other side of the freeway.

We’ve been holding down this monthly picket since the spring of 2017. A coalition of Milwaukee organizations have joined up to shut down MSDF. This facility is a building within a building, where captives have no access to fresh air or sunlight. They are triple bunked in lockdown cells for over 20 hours a day. There is no outdoor rec. The facility was built and is run using funds that should be used for diversionary programs to keep people out of jail, instead it’s being used to keep them on supervision under arbitrary and vindictive probation and parole officers.

We take this action in solidarity with the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, who has called for monthly actions on (or near) the 23rd of every month to bring attention to 23 hour a day lockdowns. http://www.nrcat.org/about-us/take-action-current-legislation/563-together-to-end-solitary

Kenosha, December 9, 2019: Pack The Court For Chrystul

Pack the Court for Chrystul

This is a pre-trial hearing. The full trial starts is scheduled for March. Please come out, get informed and build power behind Chrystul to get these unjust charges dropped!

WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH THE CASE:

At the last pre-trial hearing Chrystul’s lawyers argued that a recent law protecting sex trafficking survivors from prosecution for crimes they commit in “direct relation” to the trafficking should determine the jury instruction in this case. The prosecutor, Kenosha DA Michael Graveley argued against the application of the new law to the case. Judge Wilkes didn’t make a decision day-of. Instead, he will give his decision at this hearing.

He said the hearing will likely be 15 minutes long. Sometimes the hearing starts late or takes longer than expected, though. Chrystul’s lawyer said the decision could fundamentally reshape the case, so we’re hopeful that Wilkes will find in Chrystul’s favor, and turning out for this hearing could have a significant impact.

Wisconsin Democratic Governor Signs Bill Criminalizing Pipeline Protesters

https://bit.ly/37C1pEP

Wisconsin’s Democratic Governor Tony Evers has signed a bill making it a felony to trespass on the grounds of an oil or gas pipeline. Critics say the bill was inspired by ALEC — the American Legislative Exchange Council — and pushed through the Wisconsin legislature by the American Petroleum Institute. Opponents of the law include members of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, whose reservation is crossed by the Enbridge Line 5 tar sands oil pipeline. The tribe’s chair, Mike Wiggins, said, “Over and over, we’ve seen peaceful, nonviolent protests met with militarization, threats of violence and actual violence from some of these corporate mechanisms.”
