We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

ORIENTATION FOR 50th NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING 11.28.19

WHAT IS NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING?
An annual tradition since 1970, Day of Mourning is a solemn, spiritual and highly political day. Many of us fast from sundown the day before through the afternoon of that day (and have a social after Day of Mourning so that participants in DOM can break their fasts). We are mourning our ancestors and the genocide of our peoples and the theft of our lands. NDOM is a day when we mourn, but we also feel our strength in action. Over the years, participants in Day of Mourning have buried Plymouth Rock a number of times, boarded the Mayflower replica, and placed ku klux klan sheets on the statue of William Bradford, etc.

WHEN AND WHERE IS DAY OF MOURNING?
Thursday, November 28, 2019 (U.S. “thanksgiving” day) at Cole’s Hill, Plymouth, Massachusetts, 12 noon SHARP. Cole’s Hill is the hill above Plymouth Rock in the Plymouth historic waterfront area.

WILL THERE BE A MARCH?
Yes, there will be a march through the historic district of Plymouth. Plymouth agreed, as part of the settlement of 10/19/98, that UAINE may march on Day of Mourning without the need for a permit as long as we give the town advance notice.

PROGRAM: Although we very much welcome our non-Native supporters to stand with us, it is a day when only Indigenous people speak about our history and the struggles that are taking place throughout the Americas. Speakers will be by invitation only. This year’s NDOM is dedicated to Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls & Two Spirits, and to our thousands of relatives who are migrants and are being abused by ICE and other government agencies, including having their children stolen from them. We didn’t cross the border – The border crossed us! #NoJusticeOnStolenLand

Please note that NDOM is not a commercial event, so we ask that people do not sell merchandise or distribute leaflets at the outdoor program. If you have literature to distribute, you are welcome to place it on a literature table at the social hall following the speak-out and march. Also, we ask that you do not eat (unless you must do so for medical reasons) at the outdoor speak-out and march out of respect for the participants who are fasting. Finally, dress for the weather!

SOCIAL: There will be a pot-luck social held at a NEW social hall (to be announced) after the National Day of Mourning speak-out and march this year. Preference for first seatings will be given to Elders, young children and their caretaker, pregnant women, Disabled people, and people who have traveled a long distance to join National Day of Mourning. Please respect our culture and our wish to ensure that these guests will be the first to be able to sit and eat. With this understanding in mind, please bring non-alcoholic beverages, desserts, prepared fresh fruit & vegetables, and pre-cooked entrée items (turkeys, hams, stuffing, vegetables, casseroles, rice & beans, etc.) that can be easily re-warmed at the social hall prior to the social. Our amazing kitchen crew makes great food, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan dishes, too, but if you have special dietary needs, please bring something that will suit you so you will not be unhappy. Thank you.
Kitchen volunteers: Please contact us via info@uaine.org to offer your services.

TRANSPORTATION: Please check the facebook event page for 50th National Day of Mourning for updates on transportation, including buses and carpooling. We do not recommend MBTA service as it is limited on a holiday.

DONATIONS: Monetary donations are gratefully accepted to help defray the costs of the day and of UAINE’s many other efforts during the year: https://www.gofundme.com/f/uaine-20192020-fundraising-campaign

Milwaukee, December 7, 2019: Private Energy in Capitalism: Pursuing Publicly Owned Utilities

Private Energy in Capitalism: Pursuing Publicly Owned Utilities

Image may contain: one or more people, people standing and outdoor

It has become increasingly apparent that private energy conglomerates are not interested in providing affordable, renewable energy options in the US and other capitalist countries. Instead, costs increase and limits are applied to the renewable options provided by private firms. Meanwhile many publicly owned utilities provide more affordable and less restrictive options for consuming power as a necessity of life.

A public energy option in Milwaukee is not only possible, but necessary and could provide more democratic and environmentally friendly policies than WE Energies or any private corporation.

We will be hosting a speakers to talk about the innate environmental harm caused by private energy companies and the possibilities of a public option.

Donald Gross: Party for Socialism and Liberation Chicago.

Alex Brower: Milwaukee DSA

Speaker TBD

Ultimately, energy use under capitalism is unsustainable and in order to bring about the changes necessary to avoid an environmental catastrophe, which could wipe out life as we know it, we must transition to Socialism here in the US. Socialism would necessarily mean public control of energy and the transition to 100% renewables in a timely manner. Preparing the framework for a publicly managed energy provider would further the goal of building Socialism in our country.

Chicago, IL – More than a 1200 joined together November 22, at the hall of the Chicago Teachers Union, to refound the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression. The newly refounded Alliance will center its efforts on building the fight against police crimes and for community control of the police, and it will campaign for the release of political prisoners and the wrongfully convicted.

Longtime leaders of the Black liberation movement, Angela Davis and Frank Chapman, along with elected officials, trade unionists, and other progressive activists addressed the packed rally that opened the conference.

Milwaukee, November 16, 2019: Emergency Rally! No Military Coup in Bolivia! (Stand for Peace) U.S. Hands Off Bolivia!

Image may contain: 10 people, crowd and outdoor

Emergency Rally! No Military Coup in Bolivia! (Stand for Peace)

E Locust Avenue & Dr. Martin Luther King Dr., Milwaukee 12 NOON

We strongly condemn the military coup in Bolivia, and extends our solidarity to the Bolivian people who are struggling to defend the massive gains won under the leadership of President Evo Morales in the face of this counter-revolution. U.S. imperialism is clearly the sponsor of the coup and we
are outraged at this crime against Bolivian sovereignty and democracy.

Come rally with us at the Stand for Peace Rally, which has been upheld on a weekly basis for many years by Peace Action Wisconsin, to condemn US intervention in the democratic affairs of a sovereign state. The battle in Bolivia and all of Latin America continues between the forces that want to empower the people and those that want to restore the power and wealth of the elite. People in the United States can play an important role in this intense struggle by pressuring our imperialist government to end its war on the people in Latin America and the Caribbean. U.S. Hands Off Bolivia!

Come to Cuba with IFCO!! Come with us and visit our long-time friends!

IFCO/Pastors for Peace has been organizing trips to Cuba ever since our first US-Cuba Friendshipment Caravan in 1992. Over the years we’ve made many friends: within the religious community, at ecumenical Centers such as the Martin Luther King Center, within the fields of medicine, education and arts, and within the various governmental, non-governmental and community-based institutions of Cuban society working together to make a better world possible.
Our Cuban friends share our desire for people from the US to know more about Cuba – its history and culture, and most importantly its people and their struggles. After decades of being exposed to misinformation about Cuba, it is only through traveling to the island that the people of the US can begin to get an accurate first-hand picture of Cuba and make up their own minds about our neighbors to the South.
By hearing their stories, meeting people, visiting a wide variety of places to which IFCO / Pastors for Peace has unique and special access, visitors can get a true glimpse of Cuba. Through interacting with the Cuban people you will be able to bear witness to Cuban daily life, learning about the context for Cuba’s actions, positions, policies and decisions and gaining a better understanding of their country – and of our own.
