The first seven years of Low-Wage Walker failed working Wisconsin. Now he wants four more years of tax breaks for corporations and the 1% so that they can drive down wages, income and living standards for working people.

Join us to protest Low-Wage Walker, Trump and the boss class who have rigged the system in their interests at the expense of the rest of us. Working people are rising up to take on low-wage Walker as he hits the campaign trail for 2018.

US Begins Military Exercises off Venezuelan Coast

In April, Kurt Tidd, US Southern Command chief submitted a report to the senate warning that Venezuela could be a “destabilizing” element for the region.

The United States Southern Command began military exercises Tuesday with 18 other nations and about 2,500 soldiers on the island of Barbados, 670 miles from Venezuela’s coast.

The military organization reported that the so-called “Tradewinds 2017” is a “multinational exercise of security and response to maritime disasters in the Caribbean,” with the participation of Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana , Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as military personnel from the US, Canada, France, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

According to the Commander of the U.S. Southern Command Kurt W. Tidd these military maneuvers ensure the security of the region. However, the military force has been accused of intervening and threatening governments in the region, such as Venezuela.

In April, Tidd submitted a report to the U.S. Senate warning that Venezuela could be a “destabilizing” element for the region. The official’s statements have been denounced by the Venezuelan government amid other actions by the U.S. to put pressure on the South American country, including OAS attempts to apply the Democratic Charter against Venezuela, led by Secretary General Luis Almagro.

In addition, the Barack Obama administration decree declaring Venezuela an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the national security of the United States,” was renewed by the out-going president in January.

The Venezuelan government has repeatedly stated that the decree only seeks to justify foreign intervention.

The military maneuvers are composed of two phases. Tradewinds Phase I that is being conducted in Barbados from June 6-12; and Phase II to be held in Trinidad and Tobago, which is about 373 off the Venezuelan coast, from June 13-17.

Now he wants four more years. We can’t afford four more years of Low-Wage Walker.

Low-Wage Walker kicks off his re-election campaign on Tuesday with a big money fundraiser joined by the one and only Donald Trump.

We are taking the fight to Low-Wage Walker and Trump on June 13th. Will you be there to stand up to the politicians rigging the system and holding us back?

WHERE:
Milwaukee Area Technical College Downtown Campus
Room M605

WHAT:
We will be gathering at 5 pm in Room M605 at MATC to watch the premiere of Tim Coursen’s video about Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility (MSDF). Mr. Coursen is an independent producer who has made several videos about Wisconsin’s unjust penal system. A panel of EXPO leaders will respond to this video. Then we will hear from Janos Dev Marton who managed JustLeadershipUSA‘s #CLOSErikers Campaign which prompted New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to commit to closing Rikers. At 6 pm, we will be marching to MSDF for a prayer vigil for all of the people who have died in MSDF and a press conference.

WHY:
Wisconsin officials should support policies that would give all people the opportunity to be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect and to live in safe and healthy communities. Unfortunately, Wisconsin’s unjust revocation policies lead to the unnecessary incarceration of thousands of men and women every year. The state incarcerates many of these individuals at MSDF. These policies, which disproportionately harm people of color and people with disabilities, tear families apart, disrupt communities, and drain resources that could instead be used to build safer and stronger communities.

Problems facing people at MSDF include extreme heat, poor ventilation, no outdoor recreation, no access to sunlight, no in-person visits, being locked down for 21 hours a day, and other abuses. Several people, including EXPO leader James Wilborn, have died in this facility because their medical or psychiatric conditions were improperly monitored or left untreated.

It is time for Wisconsin to stop incarcerating people who have not been convicted of new crimes and join the growing number of states that are making significant investments in community-based alternatives to incarceration.

From Mumia Abu-Jamal: My Heartfelt ‘Thank You’!

By Political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal posted on June 2, 2017

Taken from a May 30 audio recording on http://www.prisonradio.org/

Several days ago I received a message from both of our lawyers, Bob Boyle and Bret Grote, informing me that the latest lab tests came in from the Discovery Requests.

And they told me that the hepatitis C infection level is at zero and as of today I’m Hep C free.

This is in part due to some fine lawyering by Bret and Bob, who, remember, filed the suit while I was in the throes of a diabetic coma, unconscious and thus unable to file for myself.

But it’s also due to you, the people.  Brothers and sisters who supported our efforts, who contributed to this fight with money, time, protests and cramming courtrooms on our behalf, who sent cards, who prayed, who loved deeply.

I can’t thank you all individually, but if you hear my voice or read my words know that I am thanking you, all of you. And I’m thanking you for showing once again the Power of the People.

This battle ain’t over, for the state’s cruelest gift is my recent diagnosis of cirrhosis of the liver. With your love we shall prevail again.  I thank you all. Our noble doctors, Corey Weinstein, who told us what to look for, and Joseph Harris, who gave me my first diagnosis and who became the star of the courtroom by making the mysteries of Hep C understandable to all.  An internist working up in Harlem, Dr. Harris found few thrills better than telling his many Hep C patients that they’re cured.

This struggle ain’t just for me y’all.

Because of your efforts thousands of Pennsylvania prisoners now have hope of healing from the ravages of hepatitis C. “Let us march on til victory is won.” So goes the old Negro spiritual, the Black National Anthem. We are making it a reality. I love you all.

From prison nation, this is Mumia Abu-Jamal.
