Madison, September 21: Stand up Fight Back: Court Support for #BlackLivesMatter Protestors

Come stand in solidarity with those that stand for justice on Monday, September 21st. Two will have trials to face punishment for standing in solidarity with students who walked out on East Wash April 14th to demand an end to state violence. It’s important that we not only show support to these individuals, but that we show that we will not be quiet. We will not be polite and sit by as our bodies and lives are stolen by the state and their corporate sponsors. #Justice4Tony #BlackLivesMatter #Freethe350

Milwaukee, October 6: Never Forget, Remembrance & Awareness Rally. Justice For Brandon Johnson

Image

Calling all Community Members, activists, friends, and family to stand with Brandon Johnson’s family against injustice.

As the Hamilton family faced the challenges of mental health in their case for Dontre’s life, the Johnson family does the same as they fight for justice. And still – no accountability for Brandon’s death, three years later.

On October 3, 2012 Brandon was taken away to the Mental Health Complex in Milwaukee by police and never returned home. Three days into his stay, Brandon died from neglect while in a state of paralysis. However, Brandon walked into the facility, not paralyzed. Brandon repeatedly asked for help, stating that he was paralyzed and needed to be taken to the hospital across the street – but was told that i was all in his head. When the medical examiner released his report it stated that Brandon had a broken neck and back. Brandon suffered from deep vein thrombosis, a clot in one of his legs, and ultimately died from a pulmonary embolism when the clot broke loose and traveled to his lungs.

The stigma against mental health in this country is alive and well. Come out and stand with the Johnson and Hamilton family as we call attention to Brandon’s unjust death and remember the loving young man that he was.

Milwaukee, September 18: Walk-Ins At Over 70 MPS Schools! Join The Fight To Defend Public Education!

RSVP: http://stopmpstakeover.com/

On Friday, September 18, almost 70 public schools in Milwaukee will host “walk-ins” to celebrate and protect our public schools, and to share information with parents and community members about proposed public school takeovers.

The state legislature passed a plan to take over several public schools in Milwaukee. County executive Chris Abele is expected to appoint a commissioner this fall to oversee the takeover schools. The commissioner will then identify 1-3 schools this year to be taken over next year. Very few specifics are available. For example, we do not know how the commissioner’s salary will be funded, or how the schools will be chosen.

Community allies are organizing to fight the takeover and to stand up for public schools that welcome and serve all children.

To register please click the link below.

http://www.ywcamadison.org/site/c.cuIWLiO0JqI8E/b.8275487/k.D15C/Summit_Breakout_Descriptions.htm

The focus of our workshop will be developing an analysis of systemic racism, how it impacts the lives of people of color and what we’re doing about it.

We will dive deep into how Madison came to be one of the worse city’s in the Nation to live IF you’re black.

We will also discuss what State Violence is and the subtleties of State Violence. Including the normalization of State Violence.

We will highlight ways that Young Gifted and Black has succeeded in combating systemic racism in the form of state violence and develop an in depth understanding of our demands: Divest from the Prison Industrial Complex, Re-invest in to Black Led Initiatives, End Solitary Confinement, Release the 350, Community Control of the Police. We’ll give insight into some of our methods, including direct actions, petitioning the United Nations as well as community building sessions. We look forward to the opportunity to build community with the YWCA and empower others in the struggle toward Racial Justice.

See you there!!!!
