About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

Out of Jail! Rasmea Is With Her Family and Returning Home to Chicago

http://www.stopfbi.net/

Members of the Rasmea Defense Committee from Chicago and Detroit / Dearborn just welcomed Rasmea back from 5 weeks in a Port Huron, Michigan, jail. She arrived at the U.S. Marshal’s office in Detroit for processing at approximately noon today, Dec. 11, and was greeted shortly thereafter by friends and family, who are bringing her home to Chicago now.

She looks strong, and is upbeat and excited to see more of her friends, family, and supporters soon. The defense committee wants to again thank everyone for their phone calls, letters, rallies, protests, and all the other activism that helped us get Rasmea released. She sends her love and appreciation to all, and graciously asks us to be ready for the next stage–winning the appeal and exonerating her fully.

Rasmea will be meeting with her attorneys in the next few days, and they will begin establishing strategies for the sentencing on March 10 and the appeal, respectively. We will reach out to everyone soon, and call on defense committees and supporters across the country to gear up for another intense #Justice4Rasmea campaign.

But for now, let’s celebrate knowing that Rasmea will be back home safe, and ready to get back to her work with the Arab American Action Network (AAAN) and its Arab Women’s Committee.

We will be welcoming her home publicly for the first time next Wednesday, December 17, at the AAAN’s event showcasing the Wishah popular dance troupe directly from Ramallah in Palestine. Join us to celebrate her, and Palestinian culture and resilience, by purchasing your tickets here

LGBTQ Organizations Issue Open Letter: From Ferguson to True Freedom

http://www.thetaskforce.org/open-letter-from-ferguson-to-true-freedom/

WASHINGTON, DC, December 9, 2014 —The National LGBTQ Task Force, in coalition with other national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organizations, today issued the following open letter:

An Open Letter: From Ferguson to True Freedom

Words cannot begin to describe the depth of feeling we all share about the unfolding tragedies in Ferguson and New York City. Words cannot relieve the suffering of Michael Brown and Eric Garner’s loved ones nor can words alone salve the pain nor quell the anger of millions. It’s action we need and we need it now.

As LGBTQ national organizations, we proudly stand in solidarity with the civil rights organizations and local activists — including the actions of an amazing, fierce, brilliant cadre of youth leaders, many of whom are queer identified — in demanding fundamental systemic change that tackles the root causes of racial and economic injustices once and for all. From political accountability for the deaths of Michael and Eric to the immediate passage of federal legislation that completely bans racial profiling across this land to ensuring that local police departments are representative and fair arbiters of safety and protection for everyone and who — through their actions — are continually working to earn the trust, confidence and respect of the entire community.

We too must speak louder than words and take more action — to change more hearts and minds and fight even harder for the policies and practices that make statements such as this one obsolete.

We urge you to:

·Join the March Against Police Violence in Washington, called by the National Action Network, on Saturday December 13th, 10:30am;
·Organize and participate in peaceful protests in cities across the nation;
·Attend public meetings in your city or town to show your support or share your experience with elected officials; and
·Create your own actions for change in person and online — at home, at school, at work, in the corridors of power, and in places of worship.

Everyone, everywhere in our nation can do more to end racism and racial injustice. Everyone, from the Department of Justice that must do more to deliver justice for the Brown and Garner families to the high school principal who could do more to engage and educate students about racism and the need for justice.

Even those of us who have devoted our lives to this cause need to redouble our efforts to reach out to more people — including those people who are on the wrong side of this issue.

If we as a nation are to end racism and racial injustice once and for all, everyone must be part of an ongoing and sustainable process of change — a process that builds on all the progress we’ve made, a process that aims to recruit everyone, and a process with the specific mission of delivering lived equality, justice, and freedom for all.

Merry Christmas: Free the Cuban 5!

http://www.freethecuban5.org/

For the past 16 years, the Cuban 5 have spent Christmas (Navidad) in jail for protecting American and Cuban citizens from Terrorism!

As we enter this joyous and generous holiday season, give the Cuban 5 the gift of SOLIDARITY!

The Popular Education Project to Free the Cuban 5 is calling on all our freedom loving supporters to send President Obama this Christmas letter asking that he release the Cuban 5.

This may seem simple and insignificant, but our collective action has the power to make freedom happen!  Historically, letter writing campaigns have successfully pressured prison officials to release prisoners from  solitary confinement; forced the Bureau of Prisons to provide adequate medical attention to prisoners; and have ensured prisoners win parole.

One letter means nothing, but multiply it by several thousand and it will show President Obama undeniable proof that the Cuban 5 have supporters that care about them and want them to be set FREE!

Please take 10 minutes of your time to print this letter, sign it, put it into an envelope and put it into the mailbox on your way to work, school, church, or your next protest.  I think we can all agree that this small commitment of your time is nothing compared to the YEARS  the Cuban 5 have spent in jail.

Happy Holidays!  Merry Christmas!  FREE THE CUBAN 5!
