NYC, October 18: SOLIDARITY WITH THE PALESTINIAN UPRISING

In the past few weeks 23 Palestinians have been killed and more than 300 wounded in acts of IDF/settler agression in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza.

In response to the justified uprising of the Palestinian people, Zionist activists have chosen to organize a ‘Jewish Lives Matter’ rally in Times Square this Sunday, October 18th at 5:00pm. They will be wearing blue and white to represent Israel, as well as IDF t-shirts. Besides the fact that they are appropriating the black liberation movement by hijacking the slogan Black Lives Matter, they are holding a moment of silence for murdered israelis without regard for the disproportionate violence and death experienced by the Palestinians every day.

They are glorifying the terrorist organization of the IDF, who are responsible for the torture and murder of Palestinian civilians. In the past week, over 20 Palestinian youth have been murdered by settlers, many of which have graphic video evidence being taunted by and mutilated by israeli settlers during and after death. Where is their moment of silence? This Sunday, we stand against outrageous number Palestinian children and civilians that have been murdered by those belonging to the same Zionist group as those gathering in Times Square on this day. We stand against ‘Israels right to defend’ itself against innocent children and civilians who clearly pose no threat. We stand in solidarity with the movement for Palestinian liberation from 60+ years of Zionist occupation, violence, and settler-colonialism. We stand in retaliation to the appropriation of the black liberation movement. We stand against Zionist repression, and racist Zionist ideology that weighs israeli deaths as warranting more outrage than that of Palestinians, when Palestinian deaths are greater in number and weaker in justification. Bring keffiyehs, flags, signs and join us on this day.

Join us loudly in proclaiming that Resistance is not Terrorism, Occupation and Colonialism are Terrorism!

Madison, October 18: Justice for Tony: A Vigil for Tony’s Birthday

Tony Terrell Robinson should turn 20 this Sunday, October 18th. Tony Robinson should be growing into manhood this week. Tony should be at college this week. Tony should be surrounded by friends and family as he celebrates his birthday this week. Tony should not have a mural of him, Tony’s name should not be on shirts, and Tony’s name shouldn’t follow “Justice for.” Tony’s name should not be a hashtag. Tony’s mother should be celebrating this week, not mourning the loss, the murder of her sun (sun because his memory shines like one).

Come out this Sunday, October 18th at 6:30pm, location TBA, for a vigil for Tony Robinson. It is his birthday this Sunday, come remember his name and make it shine. Make sure this city remembers who they stole.

A Message From AFSCME WI: Hands Off Civil Service! Pack the Hearings!

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

The headlong rush to pass the Walker-backed assault on state civil service has hit a speed bump, with key GOP insiders disagreeing among themselves over details.

A Senate committee vote scheduled for yesterday has been delayed for at least a couple days.

But a state Assembly committee has scheduled a hearing on the bill tomorrow Oct. 15 starting  at 9:30 in Room 412 East of the State Capitol.

Now is the time to make your voice heard!

If you can get to this hearing on short notice, please go register against the bill and stick around to testify if you have the time.

You can also click here to ask your own legislators to stop this assault on civil service.

Senate leaders may have hit the pause button while they talk amongst themselves. But they still aren’t listening to front-line employees.

Fortunately, Rep. Mandela Barnes has introduced a bill that would undo some of the damage already done to an impartial state hiring process in the last budget. His bill truly merits support.

Rep. Barnes agrees with us that public employment decisions should be based on what you know, not who you know.

AFSCME has been pushing hard to convince legislators to go back to the drawing board on the Walker-backed bill and come up with a more comprehensive approach to solving the state’s hiring crisis.

They should start by listening to state employees. If you haven’t already done so, please click here to send a message to your own legislators.

Solidarity!

Rick Badger, Executive Director
AFSCME Council 32
