Syrian President Bashar al-Assad: Accusations That Syria Used Chemical Weapon ‘Against Logic’

From RT: http://tinyurl.com/ml48wqn

Syrian leader President Bashar Assad has stressed that the claims of his government using chemical weapons made by Western countries are “an insult to common sense” and “nonsense,” in an interview to Russia’s Izvestia newspaper.

“The statements made by the politicians in the USA and in other Western countries represent an insult to common sense and neglect of the public opinion of citizens in those countries. It’s nonsense: first, they bring charges, and then they collect evidence. And it’s one of the most powerful countries that does it – the US. They accused us on Wednesday, and in only two days the American leadership announces they started to collect the evidence.… They accuse our army of using chemical weapons in the area that’s reportedly controlled by the terrorists. In fact, there is no precise front line between the army and the insurgents in that area. And how can a government use chemical weapons – or any other weapons of mass destruction – in the area where government troops are concentrated? This is against elementary logic.”

UNAC calls for all antiwar and social justice organizations to prepare for a response if there is any military action by the U.S. in Syria.  We call upon all organizations to mobilize to take action opposing U.S. intervention before any military action.  We also call upon all organizations to work together and make plans for an emergency response on the day after any military action against Syria. WAR ALERT: Syria in danger of U.S. Bombing / Emergency Protests Planned

http://tinyurl.com/moa9cwr

John Kerry has just made an ominous announcement that the U.S. intends to take “action” against Syria, and that Syria will be “held accountable.” Talk of a chemical weapons attack in Syria is filling the airwaves. The U.S. is blaming the Assad government for it and openly talking of direct military intervention.

We, as the antiwar movement, have a duty to denounce any military action against Syria by the United States. If U.S. war begins against Syria, be in the streets. Make plans.

We must make clear that we will not be tricked into another war designed to make profits for the Wall Street military contractors and oil profiteers. Such a war will take thousands of innocent lives. There is no justification for such a criminal act.

The billions of dollars that such a war would cost should be spent on education, schools, healthcare, and other basic societal needs. The fact that another foreign war is being considered, at a time that food stamps are being cut, record numbers of homes are being foreclosed, and schools are being shut down and privatized in the name of a “budget crisis”, is outrageous. Austerity is continuing in the U.S. and public sector workers’ jobs are being eliminated. Basic infrastructure within the U.S. is crumbling. Bridges are insecure. Water is not being properly purified.

A new war will be disastrous for people of the Middle East, the U.S., and the entire world. According to a Reuters poll, 89% of the population is opposed to U.S. support for Syrian opposition.

Emergency actions will take place at Federal Buildings around the country, and in Times Square in New York City in the event of such an attack. Be in the streets. Demand an end to U.S. support for the Syrian rebels.

The International Action Center (http://www.iacenter.org/) urges united actions of antiwar, community and progressive forces to organize for anti-war people’s assemblies, rallies, and protests against another war!

MONEY FOR HUMAN NEEDS, NOT A NEW WAR!

U.S. HANDS OFF SYRIA!

END U.S. FUNDING OF ISRAEL AND EGYPT!

U.S. OUT OF THE MIDDLE EAST!

August 28, Nationwide: Trayvon Martin Assemblies, Stop The Racist War on Youth of Color

http://peoplespowerassemblies.org/justice-for-trayvon-martin-actions/

http://www.facebook.com/PeoplesPowerAssemblies

Youth of color are routinely profiled by the police, security personnel and self-appointed vigilantes like George Zimmerman. From the shooting of Trayvon Martin in Florida, to the murder of Ramarley Graham in his own home at the hands of undercover NYPD officers, to the murder of seven-year-old Aiyana Jones by the police in Detroit and everywhere in between, youth of color are victimized by an inherently violent, racist system of oppression. These same youth have the highest unemployment rate and the jobs they are forced to take are low-wage jobs without benefits, rights or union representation. The anti-youth war also includes massive cuts in education, including school closings in predominately African-American communities.

We must turn our anger over the murder of Trayvon Martin into a new nationwide struggle to stop the war against youth of color.

Stop the Eviction of Jerry Ellis, UAW Retiree

Local 600 retiree Jerry Ellis needs our urgent help to save his home in Romulus.

ACTION: Make phone calls and send emails. Last month, our calls and emails to Caliber Home Loans and Orlans Associates stopped the imminent eviction of Jerry Ellis and persuaded Caliber to say that it would honor the agreement to sell him back his home for $70,000– twice its market value. Mr. Ellis has a pre-approval letter for a loan from Opportunity Resource Fund, the non-profit that will help Jerry buy back his home. But the loan process requires a letter from Caliber confirming its intent to sell the home back to Jerry, rather than evict. Neither Caliber nor Orlans has returned calls from Mr. Ellis or his lawyer since July, when they announced that Jerry would be evicted after August 19 if he didn’t come up with $70,000. (Case summary below)We need to flood Caliber and Orlans with calls and emails telling them to do the right thing:

Jerry Ellis is prepared to buy back his home for twice the value Caliber will otherwise get in this market, but the loan process at Opportunity Resource Fund requires a letter from Caliber confirming its intent to sell. Once this happens, Opportunity Resource Fund needs 45 days to process the application. We can’t stand by and watch another home go empty because of this company’s indifference to the needs of homeowners and communities.

Caliber Home Loans: 1-800-401-6587, and/or CustomerService@CaliberHomeLoans.com. Mr. Ellis’ account # with Caliber is 9800849417.
